Out & About August 2025

At the Firm

Brian attended a PIMCO Municipal Bond Due Diligence meeting at its local office in San Diego to understand PIMCO’s current view on municipal bonds, review its technology, and understand its latest investment options to help meet client needs.

Matt attended his quarterly Southern California advisor study group, which was held downtown.  He presented to the group about how CCMI’s culture and values allow it to remain unique among peers both for our clients and employees. The study group is a valuable place to share and learn from other top advisors in the region. Following the half-day meeting, the group attended a Padres game, where the conversations about practice management continued.

Kim has been dedicating part of her time to creating resources specifically for RTX employees, drawing on her firsthand knowledge from her years with the company before moving to CCMI almost 10 years ago. She has also been developing internal tools to equip the team with RTX-specific guidance, along with external content designed to bring clarity to the many considerations RTX employees face when making financial decisions.

Alana is now an official member of the Junior League of San Diego (JLSD)! JLSD is a volunteer organization dedicated to advancing women’s leadership and making a meaningful impact in the community through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. She attended her orientation this month and is excited to begin working alongside such inspiring and accomplished leaders.

On the Home Front

Brian, his wife Nikki, and their kids Emma (18), Kai (16), and Koa (13) enjoyed a trip to Peru in late July along with Brian’s dad Doug. Brian, Nikki, and Doug traveled to Peru 19 years ago to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and had so much fun that Brian and Nikki knew it was a trip they always wanted to take with their kids when they were old enough to hike the trail. With Emma about to head off to college, this was the perfect summer to execute that trip. The Matter family enjoyed some time acclimating and exploring around the city of Cusco before setting out on a four-day/three-night backpack hike among Inca ruins before finally arriving at Machu Picchu. The entire family did great on the hike and in the altitude, and loved the people of Peru and the sites along the way.

Matt and his family spent a week in the Mammoth Lakes area, where they enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, the Adventure Center, and spending time in and around the many lakes, rivers, and streams that were flush with late-season snowmelt. They also spent a day and drove into Yosemite to visit their favorite river bend in Tuolumne Meadows, where they also enjoyed the views from the Lembert Dome and had a picnic by the river. Jacob went fishing with his net everywhere he could.

Kim and Tyler have been enjoying time with friends this summer and getting their steps in with their dog Dolly while Kim has been getting miles on the bike. They went to a Red Sox-Padres game and saw it as a win-win, since they root for both teams! They are planning a trip to Maine and Canada and are looking forward to some time with Kim’s family.

It was a quiet month in the Vieregg household, which means they spent a lot of time on their boat enjoying the warmer weather and water. They gathered with 20+ members of their sailing community for a raft up in Glorietta Bay and the following weekend spent a more quiet time on the boat with their daughters. They even took their dinghies over to check out the new Gaylord Resort, which is quite impressive! Tina’s sister from Ohio was in town for a weekend; it’s always a treat to spend time with her.

Monica and Mike have recovered from all the wedding activities and the drive back from Colorado. They enjoyed spending the last month of summer with family and friends on the weekends with movies, BBQs, boat rides, and concerts in the park.

Abby had a busy month in August, from going to a couple of concerts with friends and going on a short trip to Honolulu with a girlfriend to spending time with her kids, as August is another month of family celebrations with many birthdays.

Jessica and Olivia volunteered twice with Feeding America, where they helped glean and pack over 8,000 pounds of apples and pears! Olivia discovered service is not only rewarding but fun too. The Hurley family welcomed a new furry member: Rocco, a snuggly blue tabby rescue kitty. He’s already stolen hearts and is keeping the girls on their toes with his playful demands for attention. Olivia and Gigi wrapped up an adventurous lineup of summer camps, including kayaking/watersports, SeaWorld adventures, ballet, and surf/skateboarding. After all the sunshine and excitement, both girls are having a terrific start to the new school year.

This month, the Willifords took the train up to San Juan Capistrano with the girls (and grandma) and explored the petting zoo and shops. Some of the highlights included Ansley riding a pony for the first time and Mackenzie feeding farm animals. Mackenzie’s favorite animal was the pig! Katie and Ben also celebrated their anniversary with a low-key dinner together without the girls!

This month has been a quieter one for Alana. She continues to enjoy the Master Swim program at the YMCA, which is the perfect way to start her day. She also tried her hand at making her first musubi wrap at a dinner hosted by her neighbors. A highlight of the month was being invited aboard the Alana catamaran for a tour of San Diego Bay — it’s not every day she gets to meet another Alana!

This has been a busy month for the Oryangs. Joe’s family had a lot of fun in late July and are now in the middle of house projects after moving into their new home. The summer went by too fast, but it was amazing.

The highlight of the month for Kyle’s family was a trip to Mammoth. They enjoyed bike riding around the different trails, skipping rocks and playing in the water at Convict Lake, and taking a scenic gondola ride up to the top of the mountain. Brooks also got to ride an electric dirt bike for the first time! Outside of that trip, Kyle and his family have been enjoying trips to the beach, lots of swimming, and getting ready for a new school season.
