The CCMI team completed our annual all hands business planning day in July.  The team gathered in a conference room at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography to determine how we can improve the firm for our clients and our team.  It was a wonderful day and we look forward to implementing many of the ideas generated as part of the strategy session.  

CCMI was pleased to host Schwab’s Head of Macro Research and Strategy Kevin Gordon for a webinar in July.  In the hour long webinar, Kevin answered questions about the economy, markets, and what may be coming the rest of the year.  We were pleased to offer this to CCMI’s clients and hope to do another webinar like this next year.  

Second quarter rebalancing occurred during the first week in July. We met as an investment committee to discuss macroeconomic events and how they impact our portfolios. Updating client financial plans as goals are established or met was also a focus.

Kim attended Inward Bound, an advisor retreat hosted by the Financial Transitionist® community, in picturesque Pacific Grove, Calif. Advisors from across the country gathered to deepen their skills, exchange best practices, get fresh perspectives, and explore new ways to better serve clients navigating life’s transitions. The peaceful coastal setting provided the perfect backdrop for thoughtful conversations, professional growth, and reflection on what matters most — helping clients navigate change with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

Over the past four months, Jessica completed Schwab’s Registered Investment Advisor Manager Advancement Program (RIA MAP). The program provides targeted self-assessments, peer learning, coaching, and practical management skills tailored specifically to the RIA industry. She is especially grateful for Brian’s mentorship and support throughout the experience.

Graciela has been enjoying her time at CCMI and feels grateful to be part of such a welcoming and supportive team. She has loved getting to know the advisors and her colleagues while experiencing firsthand the strong culture that makes CCMI so special. From team collaboration to connecting with clients, she has enjoyed being involved in all aspects of the business and appreciates the relationships she has built along the way. She is excited to continue growing with the firm and contributing wherever she can.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma (19), Kai (16) and Koa (14) enjoyed travelling through Slovenia and Croatia for their summer vacation.  Brian, Nikki, Kai and Koa started their journey in the beautiful mountains of Slovenia.  Emma finished her 9 week study abroad in Rome, Paris, and London and flew to Venice where she was picked up by her family before the family finished up Slovenia and headed down the coast of Croatia.  The Matter family enjoyed activities including hiking, paddleboarding, canyoning, kayaking, rafting, bungee jumping, snorkeling, fishing, swimming and island hopping on a catamaran.  The family was happy to be together as a family of five again to enjoy a relaxing vacation.  Upon returning home, Emma is interning for CCMI to help with creating video content for CCMI’s blogs and website which is a skill Emma does for her job in college.  We are happy to have her helping out CCMI and for bringing a different kind of creative skill to the team!    

Matt and his family had a fun 4th of July celebration with friends, relaxing poolside, enjoying delicious food, and watching fireworks while the kids played with their friends. In mid-July, Matt took Lizzie and Jacob to Dallas, Texas, for the Dude Perfect Squad Games Tour, a competition show put on by a YouTube group Jacob loves to follow. They all enjoyed the entertainment and comedy of the event. At the end of July, Matt left for Denver, Colo., for his 21st annual golf trip with a group of college friends. This was the group’s first time in the Rockies and they certainly enjoyed how much farther all their tee shots went — it made Matt feel young again! The Showley kids have been very busy with camps in July, with Lizzie finishing her two-week mid-summer ballet class, followed immediately by a three-week, all-day summer intensive ballet training program. She will have the month of August to recover. Jacob has been at Outpost Summer camp for two weeks going to the beach, bay, and all over San Diego doing daily adventures. He then followed that with a one-week rock climbing camp at his climbing gym. The Showleys are looking forward to a quieter August after such an eventful July full of activities!

Kim, Tyler, and their friends kept up one of their favorite summer traditions by participating in the annual Old Pros 4th of July event in Scripps Ranch. Kim and her friends completed the 35-mile bike ride, while Tyler and other friends took on the 10K and fun run. After crossing their respective finish lines, everyone gathered for the post-race celebration, enjoying good company, reconnecting with familiar faces, and celebrating another great year together.

Tina’s home was a revolving door of visitors over the last month. It was fun to spend quality time with family and friends. They celebrated July 4 ontheir boat with several of their boating community members and enjoyed the annual Big Bay Boom. They also attended a Padres game, which happened to be Italian Heritage Night.

Monica and Mike loved having son Cole and his wife Megan in San Diego for three weeks. The foursome went to a gorgeous wedding in Mexico for Cole’s childhood friend. Mike and Cole grilled many great dinners, including delicious pizzas. The visit included Barney, a Corgi, who was spoiled by Monica, his MoMo. The Larson house was busy, loud, and fun in July!

Abby had a great month, with trips to Ohio to visit friends and Texas to visit family. In Ohio, she got to go on a luncheon/lake cruise and visit Cleveland’s aquarium. In Texas, she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, sister, and niece’s family. Abby had such a wonderful time just getting around these two states and spending time with family she doesn’t get to see regularly.  The summer months are filled with birthdays, so every weekend there’s a dinner or celebration of some kind. Abby enjoys celebrating all these special occasions with friends and family.

Jessica Hurley’s family escaped to the gorgeous Great Smoky Mountains for a few days in a cozy cabin — then treated Livi and Gigi with visits to Dollywood and Dolly’s Splash Country. Highlights included spotting sixblack bears, horseback riding, hiking, ziplining through the mountains, and screaming on someseriously wild roller coasters. Add in (air-conditioned) bowling and plenty of pool time to survive the punishing Tennessee summer, and it was one unforgettable family getaway. The horseback riding turned out to be perfect preparation for Livi’s next big adventure: her first sleepaway camp, where she spent her days riding, learning to care for animals, and sleeping in a covered wagon.

This month, Katie Williford’s family made the trek up to Disneyland and it was an absolute dream. They couldn’t have asked Mickey Mouse for more. The Willifords always have ridiculous stories and one highlight from Disney was when they were waiting in the hotel lobby for pickup to head back down to San Diego. When Ansley realized what was happening, she had a mega meltdown in the hotel lobby including giant crocodile tears because she never wanted to leave. Mackenzie loved most of the rides and the pool at the hotel, but she was quite suspicious of all the characters she got to meet.

Alana went home to celebrate her birthday. She spent half of her time on Whidbey Island, going whale watching and spending a few hours observing a pod of orcas fishing. She’s missed the wildlife of the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed being back in the area. She celebrated the 4th of July in her hometown with her mom. The town is so small that the population fit in the middle school soccer field to watch the fireworks. It felt like a Hallmark film moment!

The Oryangs went to Puerto Rico with a little over 50 family members in July. They went with Kendra’s grandma and all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. It was a crazy trip with a lot going on, but it was amazing to have the opportunity. They are continuing to enjoy summer and spending a lot of time with family and friends.

Kyle and his family had a busy month running around getting the kids to their various summer/sports camps, swimming at Rebecca’s parents’ house as often as possible, going to Padre games, and attending VBS camp for a week at Shadow Mountain. They also received a welcomed surprise as Rebecca’s mom came home from the hospital after a long stay. Everyone is so happy to have her home! The Klines are looking forward to enjoying the rest of summer watching Mazie grow before school starts back up for Brooks and Hallie.

Summer has been in full swing for Graciela Hallmeyer’s family! The girls have been keeping Mom and Dad busy with trips to the gym, dance studio, and pool as they work hard on their activities and upgrading their skills. Penelope has been making great progress in gymnastics. She has been working hard on her front handspring-front tuck on floor, toe circles and cast handstands on bars, and front tumbling dismounts on beam. Her dedication and determination continue to shine through. Camila had a fantastic performance at the Del Mar Fair, followed by a well-deserved treat of Dubai chocolate strawberries and Boba tea. In gymnastics, she has been working on back walkovers and back handsprings on floor, squat-ons on bars, and handstands and cartwheels on beam. At dance, she has moved on to learning new routines as her dance company prepares for its fall show at Knott’s Berry Farm and continues to enjoy every minute of it. As for Mom and Dad, their biggest hobby at the moment is making sure the girls get to all their activities with everything they need. It’s a busy schedule but they wouldn’t have it any other way.
