Brian Matter and Matt Showley attended the Financial Planning Association (FPA) NorCal conference in San Francisco for two days following Memorial Day. FPA NorCal is a great regional conference and CCMI always sends one or two team members to it. Sessions included topics such as executive compensation, an economic update, succession planning, using cash balance plans, tax updates, and property and casualty insurance.
The CCMI team celebrated Matt’s and Alana’s birthdays at a quarterly birthday lunch in Little Italy. Team members enjoyed connecting outside the office and celebrating with each other.
Monica Larson is a finalist for the SD Business Journal‘s “The Indispensables” program. We are so grateful for Monica’s contributions to the CCMI team and our clients!

In June, Kim was honored as Rotarian of the Quarter in recognition of her work on the Grotarian Committee, which focuses on welcoming and integrating new members into the San Diego Rotary Club. Throughout the past year, she helped organize and support a variety of events, including visits to the Navy SEAL Museum, The Joan, a San Diego Seals game, and a tour of Illumina, along with numerous sessions designed to help new members learn about Rotary’s history, culture, and committee involvement. The recognition came as a complete surprise, and Kim felt deeply honored and grateful to be acknowledged for her contributions.

On the Home Front
Brian, Nikki, Kai, and Koa enjoyed a long weekend in Santa Cruz and Monterey. The boys enjoyed going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for the first time after having a book about it when they were younger. They also enjoyed seeing various surf breaks in Santa Cruz and plotting a return trip to surf them! Brian and Nikki enjoyed spending time with the boys, who are always on the go. Their daughter Emma finished up her time in Paris and moved on to London for the remainder of her study abroad. She loved the food and museums in Paris and is already loving her flat in London as it looks out onto Hyde Park. The rest of the family looks forward to joining Emma in Europe at the conclusion of her studies.
Matt and his family had a fantastic vacation in Kona, HI. After visiting Hawaii many times over the years, this was the Showley’s first visit to the big island – and they loved it! Highlights included getting to swim with a small pod of bottlenose dolphins in the open ocean for a few minutes, seeing the Manta Rays at night, watching a sunset from the top of Mauna Kea, visiting the active Kilauea volcano (missing an eruption by just one day) and seeing the lava fields, visiting a coffee farm, an ATV adventure to a gushing waterfall, and relaxing at their rental house watching the king tides bring huge waves to the Kona coastline. So many great memories in just one week.

Kim and Tyler enjoyed making the most of San Diego in June. They welcomed a visiting friend and attended a Padres game together. Instead of their usual dinner outing with friends, they spent an afternoon at Fiesta del Sol in Solana Beach. They’ve been spending plenty of time outdoors with Dolly, including introducing her to the ocean for the very first time. They’ve also continued to stay active themselves. Tyler is working toward his ambitious goal of running every street in San Diego and has already completed approximately 30% of the city. Kim completed her longest bike ride of the year, logging an impressive 54 miles.
Tina and Dave attended a Vieregg family reunion/memorial in Chicago in May. It was good to spend time with cousins, aunts, and uncles. Tina’s grade school friend and family from Cleveland visited San Diego. It was fun to be their tour guide for the weekend, enjoying the Midway Museum, a sail to the Hotel Del Coronado, hikes, and eating in Encinitas.

Monica and Mike enjoyed their first cruise to Alaska. They enjoyed the beautiful scenery, including spectacular glaciers and wildlife. The ship stopped in Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria in British Columbia. Mike likes to try to explore new towns not as a tourist but as a local, which always proves to be fun. The best part was being together on deck with hot drinks watching the incredible landscape. They both hope to go back again!
Abby enjoyed her first visit to Joshua Tree to spend the weekend out there for her daughter’s birthday. The family gathered, playing games and pickleball, loving their time there and what Joshua Tree has to offer. This time of year there are lots of family and friends’ graduations — so much to celebrate!
The Hurleys ended the busy school year with beach time and a fun Belmont Park day with friends. Gigi started summer school and summer swim team. She shaved seven seconds off her butterfly at the championship meet only to earn her first disqualification (DQ) for a stroke-rule violation. The family kept the team tradition alive with a stop at Dairy Queen after the meet, making it a memorable “DQ Day!” Olivia brought home a loaner trombone and is excited to to logging hours toward the next level. Jessica is thrilled to have completed the remodeling design phase of their home and is excited for construction to begin later this summer.
Katie has continued to work through the education requirements to become a CFP® professional. Outside of studying, the family enjoyed birthday parties and playing at park. They are looking forward to a trip to Disneyland at the beginning of next month.

Alana spent time in France, with half of her trip in Paris and the other half in a small town south of Paris called Orthez. This was her third time visiting Paris, so her favorite part of the trip was actually staying at the bed and breakfast in Orthez. The home, along with many of the surrounding buildings, has been preserved from the 16th century and featured a gorgeous garden and pool (not from the 16th century). She especially enjoyed making friends with the hosts of the bed and breakfast
and had a wonderful trip.
The Kline family welcomed baby girl Mazie to their family in late May! Brooks and Hallie absolutely love their baby sister and sometimes fight over who gets to hold her. They enjoyed the month adapting as a new family of five and getting to spend time at the bay with Kyle’s family from Arizona.

The Oryangs can’t believe it’s summer already. They have been doing a lot of house projects and constantly juggling both kids and all the changes they bring. They are excited for this summer and the time they‘ll get to spend on more projects and fun.
Graciela’s family kept busy with end-of-year school and extracurricular activities. The girls’ school crammed multiple field trips into the last three weeks, which the kids enjoyed. They got to visit the Safari Park and De Luz Ecology Center, home to the world’s smallest post office! Additionally, the girls were busy preparing for their end of season competitive pushes in gymnastics and dance.
