At the Firm

Brian’s daughter Emma has been interning at CCMI and helping create video content to go along with various blog posts. Be on the lookout for videos of our advisors accompanying our future posts.  

Brian, Matt, and Kim have been working with a firm CCMI has engaged to look at opportunities to use AI to further optimize our operations. We look forward to securely implementing solutions to create efficiencies that benefit our clients and our team.  

Kim has been spending time refining CCMI’s planning processes for RTX clients, with a focus on making the behind-the-scenes work more efficient and giving the team more time to focus on serving clients and providing thoughtful advice. She has also been developing topics for her monthly RTX Planning Playbook video series, which tackles timely financial planning decisions and opportunities for current and former RTX employees. This series is designed to help busy RTX employees understand their benefits and make more informed financial decisions without having to become experts themselves.

The entire team came together for an offsite business planning meeting focused on strengthening our firm and preparing for the future. We developed new strategies to improve our procedures and processes while also building stronger teamwork and collaboration. It was a productive opportunity to align on our goals, share ideas, and continue growing together as a team.

This month, Alana and Katie traveled to Dallas for a financial planning conference to connect with other financial planners and share experiences to help better serve CCMI clients.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma (19), Kai (17), and Koa (14) enjoyed beach camping at San Elijo in Cardiff in early August over a weekend. The Matter family attended with eight other families, which meant the kids always had friends and were off surfing, fishing, body boarding, or playing games. The family had a great time and came back exhausted from all the fun. The Matters are also excited as Emma heads back for her second year of college. She was recently accepted to the marketing program and has a semester packed full of marketing classes. Brian and Emma are driving her car to Utah at the end of August and will get her settled into her apartment before classes start. 

Matt and his family had a quiet month of August as summer came to a close and the kids got ready to return to school. Jacob built a skateboard out of scrap wood and older parts, and painted it along with other decorations to make it his own. He also went surfing several times to enjoy the warm water conditions and get more practice on his surfboard. Lizzie had a break from her busy ballet schedule and got to spend more time with friends. She also celebrated her 15th birthday over several days with family and friends. Matt and Alex finally had some time to work on some household projects and try out some new recipes at home, as well as a few new restaurants around town. Some downtime was much needed after a busy summer!

Kim and Tyler traveled to Maine to spend time with family and friends and took a side trip to Quebec while they were there. They took the ferry across the St. Lawrence River and even spotted some beluga whales while on shore. They explored the scenic Route des Saveurs, enjoying local cheeses, chocolate, honey wine, maple syrup, and other regional specialties along the way. They also spent time hiking around several waterfalls before ending their trip with a couple nights in Quebec City, where they enjoyed sightseeing, exploring the city, and some wonderful dinners.

Spending time with family was the theme of the month in the Vieregg household. Daughter Hanna came to visit, along with their nephew, Luca, and they enjoyed a weekend of rafting with several members of the SDYC cruising fleet in La Playa — taking full advantage of the warm summer weather. It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up, spend time together, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Monica and Mike spent the last weeks of summer walking in the evenings, working around the yard, and catching up with friends on the weekends. Mike’s mom is settling in after her move to San Diego earlier this year and they try to visit as much as they can. Monica caught up with high school friends for lunch and reminiscing as she missed her class reunion. 

Abby had an adventurous and fun month, as she took a road trip with her daughter and one of her girlfriends to Sedona for her birthday weekend. They enjoyed glamping, a jeep tour, a couple hikes, and eating at the local restaurants. The scenery was beautiful and they had a great time. August is a busy month for Abby as there are many family and friends who also have birthdays this month, so lots of dinners and gatherings made it a busy time. Abby is looking forward to fall and cooler weather, hopefully soon than later.  

It’s been a busy month for the Hurleys. They’ve temporarily moved out of their home for some much-needed renovations. Livi and Gigi are happily back to their regular school routine, a welcome change for Jessica and Mike after a summer of ever-changing camp schedules. Livi is back to ballet and jazz band, while Gigi kicked off the school year with a little more drama. Just two days before school started, a sisterly play-karate showdown ended with a chip fracture in her writing hand. The family’s resident water bug will be trading swim team for the sidelines for the next couple months — but knowing Gigi, probably not quietly.

This month was a little crazy for the Willifords. Mackenzie completed her first swim lesson class, and while she can’t swim (yet), she can definitely blow bubbles! Ansley started TK and is loving her new class. Ben and Katie celebrated their 15-year wedding anniversary by having Ben fly to Dallas to join Katie after her conference. They enjoyed their time together and it was especially nice having some kiddo-free relaxation.

‘Tis the season; Junior League is up and running at full speed. Alana is on the Spring Event committee this year, which is responsible for putting together The Junior League of San Diego’s largest fundraiser. She is really enjoying getting to know her fellow committee members. In her free time this month, her main focus has been escaping the heat, which means she has been spending a lot of time swimming! 

Kyle and his family had a very busy month! They finished up summer by staying at Paradise Point Resort in Mission Bay, which was the highlight of the month. Kyle, Rebecca, and the kids had a blast. They enjoyed boogie boarding/paddleboarding on the bay, collecting seashells, mini golfing, and seeing all the wildlife in the ponds. Hallie made sure to chase all the ducks back to the ponds that were trying to come into their room. Outside of the staycation, they spent the month going swimming at the in-laws, participating in various sports camps, and celebrating birthday parties in Coronado. Kyle and Rebecca are definitely ready for school to start!

The Oryangs had a great month. They have been taking care of plants, enjoying the warmer weather at the beach, and spending time with family and friends. Their youngest is now crawling and standing with support so they have to start babyproofing, but growth is a great thing and it’s amazing watching the kids explore.

Summer heat has finally arrived for the Hallmeyer family! They have been getting back into the swing of school, spending tons of time at gymnastics and dance practices. They also found time to take a break from it all with a weeklong vacation to Oahu between Waikiki and the North Shore, exploring the island via hikes and drives, visiting as many beaches as they could, immersing themselves in the culture through tours and a luau, expanding their food palette via all the food trucks, and most importantly for the kids, seeing honu (the cutest green sea turtles) live and up close.

Penelope continues to advance her skills in gymnastics. This month, she is oh-so-close to getting her giant down on the strapped high bar and is trying to narrow down her floor music for the season; last year she performed to Taylor Swift. She continues to make great progress month to month with her preseason beginning in three months. 

Camila has a new home and officially switched to her big sister’s gym. She is excited about the new friends she is making and is enjoying working on drills to help with her growing number of skills. This month, she is working on perfecting her front hip circle and getting used to her new equipment. At her dance studio, she has learned the baseline for a new fall routine that will be performed at Knott’s Scary Farm in early October. 

Mom and Dad have done a great job keeping everyone on track with homework and projects while remaining motivated and most importantly, cool as the summer heats up! Go Chargers!
