At the Firm

The CCMI team is pleased to announce that Alana Hall is now a CFP® certificant! Alana passed the test a while ago but had been working to achieve the required number of hours. Well done, Alana!

The CCMI team competed with March Madness brackets and had a team potluck to kick off the NCAA basketball tournaments. Congrats to Brian Matter, who won the men’s bracket, and Kim Benson, who won the women’s bracket.

The CCMI team spent a team-building afternoon playing pickleball at the Barnes Tennis Center. We enjoyed the competition and learning to play the game. Congrats to Kyle Kline and Alana Hall, who ended up as champions.

Matt Showley attended his Southern California advisor study group in Orange County in April. The group met to discuss results of various industry benchmarking studies, share best practices in the area of portfolio management in light of the current market environment, and learn more about how modern financial markets function in terms of trading and order routing through the financial system. It was a very informative meeting.

Kim continues to be active in Rotary by attending lunch meetings and other events over the past month. They included a lunch event at Kitchens for Good, learning more about the new Terminal 1 at the airport set to open later this year, and facilitator training for an upcoming camp in Idyllwild for high school juniors. Kim also went to the flower fields for the first time with her Women in Business group and enjoyed all the amazing colors!

With tax season in full swing and market volatility in high gear, the team oversaw quarterly rebalancing in early April.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, and the kids enjoyed a few days of beach camping at Doheny Beach in Orange County over the kids’ spring break. While the weather was cool, it was nice to get away for the last spring break with all three kids still at home.

Matt has been busy on the weekends attending Jacob’s lacrosse games. One other highlight was Matt and Jacob taking on an escape room challenge on their own. Jacob was the leader and Matt helped where needed and thankfully they made it out in one piece with a few helpful clues and a little extra time. It was a lot of fun and they plan to do it again at some point. Lizzie went on her eighth grade class trip and had a great experience, and has remained very busy with four days a week of ballet. Summer is fast approaching, and the kids are looking forward to the end of school.

Kim and Tyler enjoyed a Padres win against the Rockies! Tyler had friends in town who are aiming to eventually visit all baseball stadiums and are on stadium number 12. It was a fun night had by all!

A family ski trip to Deer Valley, Utah; hosting visitors from Ohio; a wedding; a Padres game; and the annual Opening Day Ceremony at SDYC were the main events in the Vieregg household this month. The photo is at the Carlsbad Flower Fields, Tina and her Ohio friends.

Monica has been experimenting with making homemade sourdough bread since February. She has a healthy starter and an adjusted recipe and is now baking two loaves a week to share with family and friends. For Easter, she had fun shaping loaves into bunnies. She and Mike hosted family and friends for Easter brunch. Their recent gardening work was rewarded this month with a Blue Ribbon from the Coronado Floral Association, making all the cuts and bruises worthwhile.

Abby feels like 2025 has been eventful so far, with so much going on with family, friends, and just life in general. She has been binge watching a lot of shows lately and older movies. Abby got to spend Easter weekend with her kids. Seeing them always brings her happiness; they hung out, ate, and just enjoyed laughing and spending quality time together.

Jessica had fun chaperoning Olivia’s field trip to the zoo. The lively group of fourth graders researched the Hercules beetle in the zoo’s lab, met a kingsnake, and explored many exhibits. The favorite among the many beautiful animals they saw were the capybaras and pandas. Later that evening, Jessica and Mike enjoyed a quiet dinner out to celebrate their anniversary.

The highlight of the month for the Willifords was having some of Katie’s family in town. Her cousin, Jeff, and family came down from Wilsonville, Ore. Jeff’s daughter, Chloe, was born a month or so after Ansley, so the little ones had a great time together. It was fun showing them San Diego. Katie’s brother, Clayton, also flew into town over Easter weekend. It’s always a treasured time watching the girls interact and play with their uncle.

Alana flew to her hometown for a weekend. She and a group of friends went to see their friend perform at one of Seattle’s most iconic venues, Showbox Market. It was a very lively concert, and she had fun dancing with her friends to the music. Alana enjoyed catching up with her family at brunch the following day. If you are ever in Seattle, she recommends you try Rock Creek for brunch. It’s the perfect example of classic Seattle cuisine.

In March, Kyle’s parents visited from Arizona for a weekend. He and Brooks went golfing at the Loma Club with them, which was a lot of fun. It was his first time and he loved it! Now he asks to hit plastic golf balls in the backyard every day after school. Outside of spending quality time with family, the Klines also enjoyed taking the kids bowling for a birthday party, going to the zoo, and enjoying various water activities while the weather was warm.

It has been an amazing month for The Oryang family. They went to New York at the end of March and walked around 15,000 daily steps on average. It was fun and full of good food, friends, and things to see.
