OUT & ABOUT – AUGUST 2022

29 Aug 2022 by: CCMI

At the Firm

Matt and Brian met with the CCMI team for annual performance reviews in early August. The team is also working on updating our business planning to reflect a quarterly schedule rather than the annual schedule that is now used.

Matt and Brian are pleased to announce that Kim Benson is now a Principal at the firm. She has done a fantastic job in providing services to CCMI clients and is a firm leader. Please join us in congratulating Kim!

Matt Ryan is now a Lead Advisor at CCMI. Congrats to Matt!

Sheila Hoopes is now an Advisor after successfully completing her CFP® coursework in the spring. Congrats to Sheila!

The CCMI Team is pleased to welcome back Katie Williford to our team.  Katie previously worked at the front desk with CCMI before moving to Oregon to coach girls lacrosse at the collegiate level. Katie rejoined the team to help with data management, special projects and client services. Welcome back Katie!

Matt Showley attended his advisor study group in Orange County. The group spent the day discussing current market and industry trends and hearing various presentations about changes in the advisor space.

Kim continues to be involved as the Membership co-chair for Women in Business. This month, they enjoyed their annual “Summer Soirée,” which was a nice dinner with WIB members and their significant others. Kim also hosted book club at her home this month, where the ladies discussed The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles.

Matt Ryan has joined several committees at Rotary including the check-in committee and membership committee. He also attended the orientation for the LEAD Impact program, which is affiliated with the San Diego Chamber of Commerce. His first session for this 10-month program will be on September 22. The sessions are once a month and are geared toward connecting participants with top community leaders who educate them on what makes San Diego tick.

In addition to preparing financial plans and providing investment management, Tina worked on several internal projects over the last month in an effort to improve processes and deliverables for clients.

On the Home Front

Brian and family enjoyed a trip to Iceland in late July. Iceland is a beautiful country! The Matters drove the Ring Road around Iceland and also visited the Westfjords area. Emma (15), Kai (13), and Koa (10) all agreed their favorite experience was taking a “buggy” tour (think Rzr offroad vehicles) in Thorsmork, where they had to drive through multiple glacial rivers, with a close second being taking a boat to see icebergs in a glacial lagoon. Brian and Nikki’s favorite day was hiking up a valley past the Skogafoss waterfall (pictured) to see 10-plus other beautiful waterfalls on a beautiful and sunny day.

The Matter kids also have returned to school (parents cheering in the background) to start their sophomore year of high school, 7th grade, and 4th grade.

Matt Showley and his family spent a long weekend in Lake Arrowhead with a group of college friends for a mini 20-year reunion. It was great to see everyone with their children playing together on the lake with beautiful weather. The Showleys also took turns sailing in Mission Bay in a small racing boat that was handmade by Matt’s father-in-law during the pandemic.

After returning from several trips for work and fun, including Kim’s recent trip to Nashville, Kim and Tyler enjoyed some time at home and visiting with friends throughout the month. Kim decided to prioritize health in August, with several goals including 10,000 steps per day or at least 310,000 steps for the month. She has a few accountability partners in the office who help each other with their step goals.

Matt Ryan and his family have been using the hiking trails all over San Diego. Matt has been enjoying carrying around his son Reid in a hiking backpack (as seen in the photo). It has been great to get outside and enjoy the summer!

Over 25 of Tina’s immediate family members gathered in Ohio to celebrate the life of her father, who passed away recently following an illness.  The CCMI team made a donation in Tina’s father’s memory to plant a grove of 10 trees in his native Italy.

Monica celebrated her birthday over a long weekend in July. She spent a beautiful day visiting the Valle de Guadalupe with best friend Maria, Cole, and his girlfriend Megan. They started with a delicious lunch of tacos and grilled vegetables overlooking the ocean and ended the day with churros served with ice cream and dipping sauces. Mike arranged for a boat ride around San Diego Bay with friends and Alex on Monica’s actual birthday. She was treated to a beautiful sunset and donuts! The following day a friend took her to breakfast at a quaint outdoor restaurant. Monica felt very lucky and blessed!

August is another busy time for Abby as it is her and her youngest daughter’s birthday month. They celebrated at many dinners with family and friends—always fun as she enjoys the time she gets to spend with everyone. Abby also visited the Laguna Beach area for lunch and then to Rogers Gardens in Newport with a couple of girlfriends as gardening is a fun pastime for her. Abby also was able to go to a couple of Padres games in August, which always is a fun time. Summertime is her favorite season, and living in San Diego makes it feel like a wonderful staycation.

Sheila, John, and Anastasia had a busy summer attending birthday parties at the Plunge in Mission Beach, having a barbecue with old college friends (from Massachusetts and San Diego), and meeting friends at the beach. They have been enjoying the last few weeks of summer before Anastasia starts second grade with outdoor concerts and getting out to places like Seaport Village. Anastasia is also learning to roller skate and she is getting quite good at it!

Jessica’s family celebrated Olivia’s 7th birthday with a Harry Potter-themed Triwizard Tournament on the bay, which included a giant water trampoline, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Everyone had a blast!

Olivia attended Adventure Camp, where she participated in rock climbing, swimming, and ice-skating activities. She also went to SeaWorld Camp. She had a great time making friends and learning new skills.

Jessica husband’s (Mike) mom recently moved to San Diego, so the family has been busy getting her settled in her new home and showing her around town. Jessica has also been working on a few sewing projects, which include dresses for the girl’s upcoming first day of the new school year.

This month was quite the adventure for Katie and her family. They wrapped up everything in Wilsonville, OR and started their next chapter in San Diego! While they are excited to be home, the unpacking of boxes has felt like a marathon: never ending, exhausting, and anything but fun. Katie is happy to be back with the CCMI team and Ben has been enjoying his new role at Illumina. Their little one, Ansley, started a new daycare and she had to wear shoes for the first time! Ansley also gets to spend a lot of time with her grandma, so she is a very happy girl!
