At the Firm
The CCMI partners held their quarterly offsite meeting to review goals the team is working toward, plan the goals for the quarter, and identify other areas for improvement in the future. The team continues to make strides in improving our services to our clients and making work more efficient.
The CCMI team had San Diego Project Heart Beat come to the office to train the team on CPR and how to use the AED. Team members enjoyed the training and we improved our ability to respond to an emergency if one ever occurs in our office.
Brian attended his annual Entrepreneur’s Organization retreat with his sub group over a long weekend. They traveled to Nashville, Tenn., where they had the opportunity to learn from “New York Times” bestselling author and executive coach Marshall Goldsmith, current UFC fighter and entrepreneur Michael Chandler, and former professional hockey player and current executive coach Jerry Rollins. Brian looks forward to putting what he learned to use at CCMI.
Matt played in a golf tournament at Maderas Country Club in Poway supporting UCSD in early May. He also attended an event at the Salk Institute with the Estate Planning Council of San Diego, where the group learned about some of the latest research taking place there and got a guided tour that focused on the architecture and research history of the institute. It was a fascinating experience!
Kim attended the Rotary Youth district camp at Idyllwild as a facilitator. The camp hosted hundreds of high school juniors from San Diego and Imperial counties. The long weekend was filled with inspirational speakers and events to help build leadership and give the students many opportunities to connect and share. It was as impactful for Kim as it was for the students.
Kim attended the Dimensional Women and Wealth Conference in Santa Monica along with 80 other women advisors from around the country. She enjoyed being part of the community, particularly the sharing circles, where they could each share best practices to support their women clients.
Alana helped organize a women’s luncheon with the women of CCMI. She enjoyed working with the Monarch School Project to help determine what supplies the organization needs and was happy to deliver hygiene kit bags that were very gratefully received.
With the bulk of tax season behind us, it’s full steam ahead in planning for tax saving strategies for 2025.
On the Home Front
Brian’s family has enjoyed end-of-year school activities, which included Emma’s prom, Kai wrapping up freshman baseball, and Koa wrapping up his Friday Night Lights flag football season. The Matter family is looking forward to enjoying less of a structured schedule this summer and making it to the beach!
Matt and his family had a last-minute opportunity to attend the Indy 500 in Indianapolis, Ind., with his aunt’s family over Memorial Day weekend. Matt went to the race with his dad in 1991 so it was really great to be able to take Alex and the kids to experience the same event. It is truly a unique sporting event and understandable why it is known as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” with cars going nearly 240 mph.
Kim and Tyler spent a long weekend in Santa Monica to relax and unwind after Kim’s Women and Wealth conference. They enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and trying new coffee shops. They also drove around to find the “Back to the Future” houses from the movie and enjoyed nice dinners.
The Viereggs celebrated a milestone birthday for Dave this month with friends and family gathering for various activities, events, and dinners. Dave and Tina enjoyed seeing James Taylor perform at the Rady Shell and happily celebrated the graduation of their niece, Kendall, from SDSU.
May brought another home project to the Larson home. Mike and Monica redid a brick patio on the side of the house. Monica had no idea she would become an expert in the basketweave brick pattern. Monica and her mom did a home walking tour for Mother’s Day followed by lunch. She was then treated to dinner by Mike and Alex. Cole and Megan came for a quick visit at the end of the month and the entire family had a great weekend catching up.
Abby had a fun and busy month. With Mother’s Day, her daughter’s birthday, and many other family and friends’ birthdays, May was a month of celebrations. Abby enjoyed all of it, and looks forward to the upcoming warmer summer weather.
Jessica chaperoned Gigi’s class visit to experience the Symphony of Colors, a collaboration between the San Diego Museum of Art and the Classics Philharmonic blending timeless art and melodies. The lively group of first graders enjoyed the interactive performance. The Hurleys also enjoyed celebrating Mike’s birthday with family.
The highlight of the month for the Willifords was Mother’s Day weekend. It was jam-packed with events, including a Mother’s Day Tea at daycare and preschool, a family wedding, and a long walk and dinner at Seaport Village with Katie’s mom, aunt, cousin, and nephew, along with Ben and the girls. While there wasn’t any “relaxation” for Katie, it was still a wonderful weekend with family.
Alana has been prioritizing making new friends. She is meeting people largely through friends of friends or through shared interests, like hiking. Her most interesting connection is the friends she made in her neighborhood, a couple in their 50s that have over a dozen rescued ducks in their backyard. Once they found out she was raised on a farm, they invited her over for dinner in their garden to meet the animals. She is excited for the next time she can spend time with them and is enjoying building community in San Diego.
The Klines had a pretty busy month full of baseball games, birthday parties, and a trip to the zoo. It is bittersweet that t-ball season is over but Brooks had a lot of fun this season making new friends. At the zoo, the kids loved taking the Skyfari and seeing the jaguars, elephants, and reptiles. Hallie just got done completing two weeks of swim lessons and is excited for lots of swimming this summer.
Joe and Kendra had a quiet month. They enjoyed going on walks through the neighborhood and sitting on the beach. They are very happy to be in California, enjoying the great weather and ocean breezes.
