OUT & ABOUT– January 2024

25 Jan 2024 by: CCMI

At the Firm

Brian has been busy wrapping up 2023’s compliance activities and setting up the firm’s compliance program for 2024. Early year activities include updating the ADV/firm brochure, updating the Form CRS, and adjusting policies and procedures to new rules and regulations.

The CCMI team welcomed a new member, Allie Specht, in January. Allie will fill the data management role Katie Williford has served in for the last year-plus. We will include a full introduction to Allie in our February Newsletter.

Congratulations are in order for Katie, who successfully completed coursework and passed the exam for the Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional (FPQP) designation. We are very excited about her accomplishment and having Katie serve as a paraplanner upon her return from maternity leave in the spring.

After the year-end push executing certain tax strategies for clients, Kim and several team members spent time updating tax planning procedures and processes to make tax strategies more efficient going forward. It is a project CCMI has undertaken to leverage new technologies to improve processes that impact many clients.

The beginning of the year can be even busier than year-end. Tina has been making sure clients have sufficient cash for expenses or distributions and accounts are appropriately rebalanced. It’s also a great time to set new goals, review last year’s goals, and review expenses from the previous year to determine if expense estimates are on target for the new year.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma (16), Kai (14), and Koa (11) enjoyed celebrating some big birthday milestones in January. They traveled to Mission Viejo over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend to celebrate Brian’s grandpa and great aunt (twins) turning 99, his grandma turning 93, and his cousin turning 50. It was great spending time with extended family. Brian knows he will need to plan for longevity in his future!

Matt and his family kicked off the new year with a quiet night at home after a very busy holiday season. They also enjoyed several beach visits during the high tides of early January. The Showleys are hoping for snow this season as they have a few short ski trips planned this winter.

Kim and Tyler were lucky to host Kim’s parents and sister for Christmas. It was great having the whole family together, especially because their visitors all live in Maine. Of course, they all enjoyed the nice weather San Diego has to offer and spending time with each other.

For Tina, the highlight over the last month was spending Christmas in Cleveland with her extended family. It was a great week full of activity visiting family and long-time friends.

After a busy holiday season, Monica was happy to relax in January. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite college and professional football teams as they made the playoffs. She spent time preparing her yard for spring by pruning roses, weeding from recent rains and planting new annuals. Monica also learned pickleball and is excited to start playing with a group of friends on a regular basis.

Abby brought in 2024 at home with a quiet New Year’s celebration. January always starts off with a kick, having seven immediate family members birthdays— one being her son. Abby and her kids went for their yearly cabin getaway to Wrightwood. There was no snow but they kept busy with walks, hikes, and lots of pool tournaments. Playing pool was something they really enjoyed every evening and it was very competitive, so you can imagine the banter!  Spending time with her kids and making special memories is what Abby loves most.

The Hurleys had a lovely holiday season. They checked out the holiday festivities at many of the local theme parks with friends. They were grateful to celebrate Christmas with their extended family. Jessica loves to watch her grandparents spending time with their great-grandchildren.  Olivia and Gigi did a wonderful job in the Nutcracker Remix dance performance. The girls were thankful for their friends and family who came out to watch and support them

The Williford family welcomed their newest bundle of joy on December 28 when Katie gave birth to Mackenzie Brynn Williford. Katie, Ben, and Ansley all love Mackenzie and everyone is doing well. The CCMI team is thrilled for Katie and family and can’t wait to meet Mackenzie!

Alana has greeted the new year with zest and a bit of balance. She’s happily back into her study and workout routine. CFP® exam study sessions resumed with early morning meetings with her tutor before heading to the office. In between hitting the books, she’s been catching waves at Tourmaline and Del Mar whenever they aren’t too big as surfing has become a sweet escape from the regular hustle and bustle. Her January highlight was attending San Diego’s Rodeo at Petco Park. She learned there hadn’t been a rodeo in the city since the 1980s. She had so much fun cheering for the bull riders with her sister Angie and her friends.
