OUT & ABOUT – December 2023

27 Dec 2023 by: CCMI

At the Firm

The CCMI team enjoyed a Holiday Dinner at Callie at the end of November.  The food was delicious and the team enjoyed spending time with each other, including spouses or plus one guests that evening.

Brian oversaw the annual compliance meeting where the team reviews all of our compliance related responsibilities.  Our compliance attorney joined us for the meeting to share new updates for our team to keep up to date with the latest announcements from the various regulatory bodies that oversee CCMI.

Brian and Matt attended a conference in Newport Beach hosted by PIMCO funds.  The conference featured their investment team providing overviews of the economic environment and various strategies to consider in 2024.

Matt toured the new Scripps Hospital tower as a part of the Scripps Gift Planning Advisory Board to see how Scripps is incorporating the latest in medical and maternity facilities into its state-of-the-art new building. He also attended his Vistage group’s holiday party, always a great event.

Kim attended various holiday parties, including those hosted by the Estate Planning Council, Rotary, and Women in Business. It is always fun to see familiar faces and have time to get to know everyone better at these special events.

Kim, Katie, and Jessica have been keeping busy supporting year-end tax planning and working together to revamp the tax planning process to make tax information easier to obtain by leveraging new systems and capabilities.

Year-end tax planning and gifting tends to be the focus for the last month of the year along with meeting with clients to review investment portfolios and financial plans. This is a great time to set goals and review upcoming expenditures for the new year.

The CCMI team was busy filming on a Friday afternoon to update our firm intro video.  Be on the lookout for the updates that show off the new office in the coming months.

On the Home Front

Brian and his family have been attending various holiday parties – ‘tis the season!  Brian’s favorite part of the season is giving back.  The Matter family volunteered as secret Santas by shopping for four kids who are HIV positive from low-income families in Mexico. Brian and family also served lunch for low income seniors at Serving Seniors on December 23 which was a project that Brian’s Rotary club participates in annually.

Matt and his family spent much of December visiting friends and family to celebrate the holidays and exchange gifts. It is the most wonderful time of the year—especially for the kids as they get to enjoy two weeks off from school!

Kim and Tyler celebrated Thanksgiving by hosting old and new friends;  they always like to welcome friends who may not have family locally. They have also been busy with other festivities such as celebrating Tyler’s birthday in Hawaiian style and attending various holiday parties. They are looking forward to relaxing over the holidays.

The personal highlight for the Vieregg family this month was a trip to the Society Islands of French Polynesia over Thanksgiving. Tina, Dave, Hanna, and Sara (along with Tina’s brother and his family) spent a week bareboating a catamaran around Raiatea and Taha‘a, then spent a few nights in Bora Bora in overwater bungalows. It was truly a magical experience and the trip of a lifetime. The snorkeling was incredible as the reefs were alive and very colorful. Some of the many highlights of the trip were swimming with blacktip reef sharks and stingrays as well as taking a jet ski tour around the islands.

Monica started the holiday season by hosting her dearest girlfriends at her home for their annual Christmas party and gift exchange. They had a wonderful potluck dinner and shared laughs playing games and recounting favorite Christmas traditions. Mid-December found Monica on an eight-day cruise on the Danube River with her mom and two sisters to visit the Christmas markets in Hungary, Austria, and Germany. They enjoyed the sights, sounds, and food and were back home in time to celebrate Christmas with their families. It was an unforgettable experience!

Abby’s holiday season has been busy and fun! She started the month off with her yearly weekend trip with friends she grew up with who meet every December to bring in the holidays. This year they went to the beautiful area of Carmel/Pebble Beach. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and the scenery more beautiful! They stayed in a lovely cottage and enjoyed eating at some great restaurants, playing games, taking walks, and shopping around town. They all had a wonderful time; it’s something everyone looks forward to every year. Abby is very close to her extended family, who do a lot together, so she went to another play where her niece was the lead—The Nutcracker—enjoying watching her and being so in awe of all the talent. At the end of the month came Abby’s favorite activity, spending time with her kids, including Christmas, and as always they just enjoyed being together, catching up, and eating all the kids’ favorite foods.

The Hurley family walked with their school’s parade float in homemade Tiki masks as the theme was Santa’s Disco Luau. Both girls were the top runners in their classes for their Jog-A-Thon and earned a chance to dunk their fun-loving principal in a dunk tank. Jessica chauffeured the girls to rehearsals for their performances in The Nutcracker remix. During their Santa visit, Gigi paused an awkwardly long time when he asked if she had been a good girl this year—even Santa had a chuckle! Gigi also celebrated her sixth birthday with a Ninja Cat-themed birthday party.

Katie and Ben have thoroughly enjoyed watching Ansley embrace the wonder of the holidays! From singing Christmas carols to decorating cookies, it has been a special time for the soon to be family of four. One of the best memories of the month was when they went to look at Christmas lights with Grandma in the Pepper Drive neighborhood. The wonder and excitement Ansley showed will always be a cherished memory!

November marked a refreshing pause in Alana’s typically bustling life, offering her a well-deserved break. Taking advantage of this opportunity, she took a quick trip to her hometown, Seattle, relishing the warm embrace of friends and family. She snuck in lots of snuggles with her favorite fur baby niece, Osa; went on an oyster-eating spree; and dodged the rain in cozy cafes, drinking way too much coffee and catching up with friends.

Thanksgiving took an unexpected turn as she went to Mexico with her sister, Angie. Alana’s first time daytripping from San Diego to Rosarito turned out to be a cool adventure, with her brushing up on Spanish and getting a taste of the local scene.
