At the Firm

CCMI was pleased to host LEAD San Diego at the office to interview various non-profits that were in contention to partner with the organization as a project for the current year class. Brian assisted in the interviews to help identify the final six non-profits that were selected. Brian, Matt, and Kim are all graduates of LEAD San Diego’s Impact program.

CCMI is pleased to announce that Kim won the San Diego Magazine‘s People’s Choice Rising Star Award in the area of Finance at its 2023 Celebrating Women Summit. Kim was nominated by Brian and Matt for her achievements and voting for this new award took place online. Kim and her husband Tyler, Brian, and Monica attended the awards banquet and celebrated Kim’s achievement that evening. Congrats, Kim!

The CCMI team enjoyed throwing Katie a baby shower to celebrate her second daughter’s arrival in 2024, with Katie’s husband Ben joining the festivities. We are all excited for the new addition to arrive!

Matt attended a quarterly advisor study group meeting in Orange County where the focus was on compliance and the outlook for 2024. This is always a great meeting to listen and share with other top advisors in the region.

Kim traveled to Schwab’s 2023 IMPACT conference in Philadelphia, where she attended educational sessions on various topics, networked with others in the industry, and heard inspiring keynote presentations. She enjoys hearing about the latest updates in the industry and getting new ideas to best serve CCMI clients. Michael Phelps was a keynote speaker and it was inspiring to hear about his rigorous training schedule as well as seeing a more personal side about how he continues to overcome struggles with mental health and help others.

It’s been busy at the firm as we head into the last few weeks of the year. Financial planning, tax planning and investment strategies are at the top of mind as well as deadlines to complete continuing education for various certifications.

The CCMI team enjoyed dressing up as Barbie and Ken for Halloween. Team members shared in a potluck meal that day to celebrate Halloween, with everyone presenting delicious and unique dishes to share!

Food seemed to be the theme at the firm this month as we also had an offsite team-building event at Mattarello Cooking, where we made homemade pasta that we ate with the sauce of our choice. While we were enjoying pasta, we each shared an example of how we have held ourselves accountable, one of CCMI’s core values!

November kept Alana on her toes with CFP® exam prep but one of her highlights was attending the FPA Next Gen happy hour. It was an awesome event to meet up-and-coming financial planners.

On the Home Front

Brian and his son Kai (14) spent a weekend in Las Vegas for Kai’s baseball tournament. While the wins and losses were not what they had hoped for, they had fun spending time together and trying new restaurants.

Matt traveled to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for his annual golf trip with a group of mostly college friends. This was the 18th year for the excursion, which is held at a different location each year.  Matt was the defending champion but sadly had to pass the trophy on to someone else this year.

Matt, Alex, and their kids traveled to Yosemite for the Thanksgiving break and enjoyed several hikes to waterfalls and the other beautiful vistas in the valley.

Kim and Tyler traveled back east for a friend’s wedding celebration. As Kim was already attending a conference in Philadelphia, they spent a day exploring all the city has to offer and drove to Delaware for the weekend, spending time with their friend Holly, her husband, and family. One of their favorite parts of the trip was a three-mile hike among colorful leaves that looped through three states: Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.  Being from the East Coast, they miss the fall foliage but were happy to come home to sunny San Diego!

The personal highlight this month for Tina was going with her daughter Sara to Ohio to attend Tina’s sister’s 60th surprise birthday party, which was a smashing success! The look on her face when she saw the 70+ friends and family in attendance was priceless and well worth the lengthy travel for a short weekend!

The Larsons celebrated Alex’s 29th birthday by taking him out to dinner and drinks and then Alex and Monica attended a fall-themed gluten-free cooking class. Menu items included tomato pumpkin soup, grilled cheese and pesto sandwich, spaghetti squash and artichoke casserole (which Monica has already duplicated), and peanut butter chocolate cup bars. Thanksgiving was celebrated with Monica’s mom and her brother and his family visiting Idaho. Monica continues to feel blessed and looks forward to the holiday season.

Abby continued on into the holidays with many gatherings and events with family and friends,  starting with a Halloween birthday celebration for a friend and going to Mexico for a quick weekend trip for an anniversary masquerade party, which was quite beautiful. Abby also got a quick visit from her sister who lives in South Dakota passing through town, which was really nice as they don’t get to see each other often. Abby also got to watch her great niece as the lead in the play “Annie” at the performing arts center, where she was exceptional and the whole family was so very proud of her.

Jessica started volunteering in Gigi’s kindergarten classroom with projects like painting pumpkins and bats; seeing student’s smiling faces is wonderful! The Hurleys enjoyed quite a few Halloween events throughout the fun-filled month. Flounder and Sebastian (Jessica and Mike) flanked Princess Ariel (Gigi) for most of October. Olivia took a pass on the family costume and was a genie instead. The Hurleys also spent two nights camping at Green Valley Falls with friends.

This month, the Willifords have been getting ready for the holiday season. Ben and Katie have had so much fun planning which gifts to get for Ansley, who is currently enamored with trains, Cocomelon, and coloring. They haven’t started preparing for the next baby, who is supposed to make her grand arrival into the world in January. Katie is quite sure the nesting phase will come in December along with the realized panic that they aren’t ready for another baby! The highlight of the month was when the Willifords got to catch up with one of their favorite families from Oregon, who were in town for a lacrosse tournament. There is something wonderful about being around friends you haven’t seen in awhile.

Alana went to her hometown of Seattle for a weekend. It was a refreshing trip spent with friends and family. They spent most of their time relaxing together but enjoyed one nice meal at the Metropolitan Grill downtown.
