OUT & ABOUT– August 2023

24 Aug 2023 by: CCMI

At the Firm

As of August 21, we have a new location!

CCMI officially moved to our new office at 6265 Greenwich Drive #201, San Diego, CA 92122. We are very excited to welcome you to our new space off Governor Drive and Highway 805, which has a familiar look and feel. We will be sure to remind clients of the new address before upcoming meetings—and stay tuned for details about an open house to welcome everyone to our new home. Even with the move, our team has remained busy.

Kim has been attending weekly Rotary meetings and enjoying meeting fellow Rotarians. She is involved in the greeting committee and the Grotarian committee, which is made up of all the new members. Kim is looking forward to continuing to get to know people and learning more about ways to give back to the community through Rotary.

Tina expanded her knowledge in life insurance analysis by attending an Estate Planning Council meeting with experts who shared the latest strategies for using or optimizing old insurance policies that no longer serve the same purpose as they did when purchased. She also attended a webinar highlighting the current themes in retirement planning, including changes brought about by SECURE Act 2.0.

Abby has been busy with the move and loves the new office space; it’s bright and roomy with a lot of open areas to walk and easy access to enjoy the outdoors. She’s excited for you all to stop by and see it.

Alana has started studying for the CFP® exam and her social life has dwindled down but it’s great that she’s motivated to pass it on her first try. November will be an important month for her; be sure to wish her the best of luck!

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma, Kai, and Koa enjoyed a 10-day vacation to Alaska. They were around Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula for the majority of the trip. The great weather throughout aided in their adventurous activities, which included a lot of hiking, taking a helicopter to a glacier hike, driving an ATV to a glacial lagoon, ocean kayaking to the Aialik glacier, halibut fishing, taking a seaplane to fish for salmon in a lake, and animal watching (brown and black bears, mountain goats, moose, and humpback whales among many other wildlife). The Matter kids enjoyed fishing the most while Mom and Dad most enjoyed the time with family. It was a memorable trip!

Matt and Alex had a night out with friends for the Manchester United vs. Wrexham soccer match. The Showleys have been busy in the final weeks of summer with Jacob in a children’s theater production of “Star Wars” and Lizzie finishing a multiweek volleyball clinic. They’ve also enjoyed a few days at the beach, bike rides at the bay, and even a little golf.

Kim and Tyler have been out and about in San Diego this past month hanging out with friends and visiting family members. They went to their first San Diego Loyal soccer game; visited with CCMI colleague Tina and her husband Dave on their boat in Mission Bay; and one Saturday even took a Coaster ride up to Oceanside, had brunch, and walked down the coast to hop on the next train back to San Diego. They like to remind themselves how lucky they are to live in such a beautiful place!

Tina’s sister came to visit for a long weekend in early August and while she was in town the extended family planned a backyard dinner with a hibachi chef. It was very fun. Dave and Tina have been spending lots of time on the water and enjoying the warmer weather.  Kim and Tyler joined Tina and Dave for some fun on Mission Bay during a raft up weekend with the cruising fleet from the San Diego Yacht Club.

Monica and Mike were lucky to be able to visit Great Britain for the first time this summer. Their trip started in York, where they attended a charming church wedding followed by a beautiful afternoon tea reception in a lovely English garden. After celebrating the sweet couple, they explored the city of York for a day andthen took the train to Edinburgh, Scotland, touring the city on double-decker buses and visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia and Edinburgh Castle on Monica’s birthday. They enjoyed walking the Royal Mile and climbing many stairs to see the massive city views from Calton Hill. Their last stop was London for three days of sightseeing to visit Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Victoria and Albert Museum, Kensington Gardens, Tower of London, and Borough Market. After planes, trains, and 150,000 steps in 10 days, both were happy to be back home!

August is always a busy month for Abby, as she shares the birthday month with her daughter.  They celebrated with lots of gatherings with friends and family so they got to celebrate several times, which is always enjoyable. Abby also went on a short getaway to Oahu with her daughters. It was a fun trip to the North Shore, a place where one of her daughters really loves and hopes to one day live—so they did a lot of exploring in addition to being tourists.  With the fall months ahead, Abby cannot believe how fast time flies; she’s still trying to enjoy summer!

The Hurleys made a quick trip to Vancouver B.C. They visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Vancouver Aquarium, and Bloedel Conservatory and enjoyed a fun day in Stanley Park. They also did some hiking along the trails of Lighthouse Park. Olivia and Gigi entertained themselves during the hike by pretending to be cast members of “Survivor” and were thrilled when the family stopped at a viewpoint to watch a harbor seal catch and enjoy fresh salmon for lunch!

This month, the Willifords were out and about in San Diego. They spent time at SeaWorld with their college friends and their daughters, who were in town for a weekend. Ansley went on her first ride, and she was enamored! Her favorite animals were the dolphins but nothing was better than her slice of pizza. Later in the month, Katie and Ben went with a close family friend to the Wrexham vs. Manchester United game. It was fun to see the stadium full and lively, and of course they enjoyed the Wrexham win! Lastly, Katie and Ben had a relaxation and pool day at Harrah’s in Valley Center and capped the day at Hell’s Kitchen to celebrate their anniversary.

Alana had the opportunity to reconnect with her friends from her time studying abroad in Spain. They took a mini road trip to the Channel Islands National Park—a fantastic adventure. Hiking, swimming, and watching dolphins were some of her highlights from the trip. Alana cherishes their friendship and feels lucky to be able to maintain them over long distances.
