Out & About – December 2022

At the Firm

The CCMI team enjoyed celebrating Kim’s birthday at our quarterly birthday lunch in December. Following the luncheon, the team went to Target to shop for families in need this Christmas. One of our core values is to “Strengthen Our Team and Community” and giving back around the holidays is part of that commitment.

The CCMI team held its annual compliance meeting in December. We review the firm’s policies and procedures and talk about any new focus areas and changes that may be coming.

We successfully migrated all records to a new CRM and went live with it in December. The implementation team did a great job of verifying the data and making it a seamless transition.  The new CRM is much more user-friendly and powerful and we look forward to creating additional efficiencies by using the new system.

Matt, Brian, and Kim held an all-day offsite planning meeting to synthesize goals for CCMI as we head into 2023.

Kim has been helping clients with year-end tax planning as we approach the end of the year.  She has also been enjoying this festive time of year by attending holiday parties, including ones with the Women in Business organization, the Estate Planning Council of San Diego, and the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance. It was a nice time seeing familiar faces and making new connections.

Year-end has been busy at CCMI with tax strategies and annual gifting deadlines fast approaching. Tina attended a market and research luncheon hosted by Dimensional Funds where industry thought leaders shared investment strategies for the coming year. She has been helping with an internal software conversion and learning about all the new capabilities with the new program.

On the Home Front

As the normal Thanksgiving plans happened before the actual Thanksgiving day this year, the Matter family decided to check out Joshua Tree National Park during Thanksgiving. They had a great time exploring the desert landscape and taking in all the unusual Joshua trees. The highlight was a morning of rock climbing where the family got to challenge themselves maneuvering up six different climbs (pictured)!

Matt Showley and his family will spend the holidays at home visiting with friends and family and the kids are looking forward to a break in the action from school. In early December, the Showleys attended a Nutcracker ballet performance in Poway starring some close friends. In mid-December, Matt was able to see his backyard BBQ area come to life as the final project for their house got underway, hopefully to finish by New Year’s Day.

Kim and Tyler enjoyed Friendsgiving, an annual tradition. This year, their friends hosted so they had fun spending time with them with less time preparing food. It was great company, lots of laughs, and a great way to kick off the holiday season!

Tina and Dave hosted 27 family members for Thanksgiving dinner. Some traveled from Colorado and Ohio and stayed for the week.  Family dinners and holiday festivities filled the week along with a trip to Hotel Del Coronado to see the holiday decorations. Tina and Dave also attended SDYC’s annual Cruising Fleet holiday party along with cookie exchange parties and neighborhood gatherings.

After celebrating Thanksgiving in San Diego, Monica and her mom took a five-day trip to Idaho. They spent time with Monica’s sister and brothers who call Boise home. They loved exploring downtown, visiting the train depot, and shopping at small shops and craft fairs. They walked along the river and were treated to just a dusting of snow. The highlight was seeing all the holiday light displays in Boise and Caldwell. Hopefully, they will have a chance to visit again in the spring or summer!

Abby had a very busy December that included traveling to San Francisco for her yearly gathering with the friends she grew up with. They stayed in Union Square and enjoyed the holiday vibes. SantaCon was taking place, so they joined in with the festivities and wore Santa hats and Christmas light necklaces. It was a wonderful weekend getaway that Abby looks forward to every year. She also had a lot of family in town, as her niece got married, so it was a busy weekend with family and the wedding celebration. Celebrating Christmas day with her kids is her favorite, just a simple relaxing day, eating their favorite foods and spending the day together. Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and happy 2023!

Sheila, John, and Anastasia got to experience two Thanksgivings, one with their friends on Camp Pendleton and another on Black Friday with John’s parents in Palm Desert. In early December, they went to Disneyland one last time and while experiencing the beautiful decorations in the California Grand Hotel they got to take family photos with Santa. They are getting ready for a busy holiday season and are looking forward to trips to see John’s and Sheila’s families.

The Hurleys celebrated Gigi’s 5th birthday at Disneyland. The girls loved Space Mountain and the Matterhorn roller coasters! The family enjoyed the park’s holiday decorations and parade. They also made a quick visit to Great Wolf Lodge. Olivia had the blast on the water slides with her mom and dad! Gigi decided she is “never ever” riding a water slide, which surprised her parents since she’s usually a thrill seeker.

Katie and her family enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. Katie and Ben had the pleasure of cooking the meal for everyone while the family entertained and spent time with Ansley. Their time in the kitchen was almost relaxing because there wasn’t a toddler hanging on their legs! The Willifords also went to the Holiday Market at Petco Park and loved it. The event wasn’t crowded, so Ansley got to practice walking and see all the lights and Christmas decor up close. She got her first photos with Santa too, and of course wanted nothing to do with him!
