At the Firm

Brian attended presentations on the Neuroscience of Success by Tayna Chernova and a presentation on Post-COVID Culture Building by Garry Ridge, the CEO of WD-40, as well as the monthly Schwab Market Update calls presented by Schwab’s market analysts. One of CCMI’s core values is to Hold Ourselves Accountable, which includes continuous learning so we can provide the best solutions to our clients and create the best environment for our CCMI team members.

The CCMI team held a breakfast challenge one early morning.  The winners included Matt Showley’s made to order omelets (pictured), Abby’s quiche, and Kim’s smoothie. The team thankfully avoided a food coma after sampling each of the breakfast foods that were entered in the contest.

The CCMI team is proud to announce that Sheila Hoopes has passed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™️ examination and is officially a CFP®️ professional. Sheila has worked hard for many years to make this a reality and the team is thrilled for her accomplishment! The team celebrated her passing with donuts from Donut Bar (pictured).

Matt Showley and Brian Matter have been coordinating with our upcoming speaker for the event on June 2nd with Cybersecurity Expert Jim Stickley. CCMI is excited to share a live discussion about the many issues surrounding online privacy and security as well as tips to help clients stay safe on their devices.

Kim attended the Financial Planning Association’s quarterly meeting where she received an update on the housing market, and learned some good tips for marketing and investing. It has been a few years since Kim’s previous in-person quarterly meeting so it was nice for her to reconnect.

Kim has been working on reviewing and enhancing current processes at CCMI with the help of other team members. She enjoys finding ways to make processes simpler and easier, especially from the client’s perspective.

Matt Ryan has been working on some internal trade process improvements with the rebalancing software that CCMI uses. CCMI is always trying to improve our processes and procedures to improve our client experience and also our own efficiencies. He has also been enjoying being a part of the San Diego Rotary Club #33. Rotary meets every Thursday for lunch and Matt is starting to get more involved in the different committees serving the San Diego community.

Tina continues to work with clients to help bring clarity to their financial situation.  Continuing to work on strategy within the investment portfolio was a focus this month.  Tina also attended a meeting at the North County Estate Planning Council where industry experts discussed strategies for creating a legacy with real estate portfolios.

On the Home Front

Brian’s family has been primarily at the baseball fields during free time. Brian was assisting as a coach on Kai’s team of 13 year old baseball players and was happy to see the season come to an end. Koa’s team continues to play for a few more weeks before they end for summer break. The Matter family loves cheering on the boys at the baseball field, but also enjoys the free time when the season lets out!

Matt Showley and his family passed the one year mark after moving back into their remodeled home and finally have furniture in all rooms and feel fully settled. They had friends stay with them from out of state for a long weekend, their first ever guests in the new guest bedroom! Matt has also been busy attending his son Jacob’s baseball games as they make a playoff run as well as now coaching his daughter Elizabeth’s volleyball team. Both kids are working hard in their first year of each sport.

Kim and Tyler have been at home taking care of their senior dog Fenway as she has been recovering from surgery. Luckily, she has recovered very quickly despite her age and is acting like a puppy again! Additionally, they’ve hosted friends each weekend for fun evenings together, some of whom were in town visiting. To stay healthy, they continue to be active with Kim training for the upcoming Scripps Ranch Old Pros 4th of July 50 mile bike ride and Tyler planning to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon.

Matt Ryan and his wife Jess hosted some friends over a long weekend. They took them to Coronado to ride bikes, walked around Sunset Cliffs, and went out to eat at a few local restaurants and the farmers market in Little Italy.

Matt Ryan also enjoyed a large family get together for Easter. There are many young kids in his family so Matt’s son Reid has a blast hanging out with all the cousins.

It was a busy month in the Vieregg household. Tina and Dave had a fun time with Dave’s mom while she visited from Colorado. They hosted Easter brunch, attended Bob Fosse’s Dancin’ at the Old Globe and celebrated Opening Day at the San Diego Yacht Club. Their oldest daughter, Hanna, surprised them with a visit home. Dave won 2nd place in his class at the 50th annual Yachting Cup and Tina and Hanna were able to cheer him on during the regatta from a friend’s boat. Tina and Dave also attended a Kentucky Derby party, but did not pick the winning horse.

Monica celebrated Mother’s Day touring historical homes in Coronado with her mom and sisters. She was spoiled with flowers, cards, and dinner by sons Alex and Cole. Mike surprised her with a custom art piece that he designed and made for their newly remodeled kitchen. She was able to get away on a ladies retreat for a sunny weekend in May near Julian.

Abby got to spend Mother’s Day with her kids and brother’s family with a barbecue at his home. Spending time together is always a priority during special occasions, and they truly enjoyed their time. May is a busy month with several family and friend’s birthdays, so there are many dinners and gatherings to celebrate. Abby looks forward to the warmer weather now that it seems to be warming up. Happy May everyone!

The Hoopes family has had a lot to celebrate recently! At the end of April they had a nice celebration dinner for Sheila for passing the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™️ exam. Then in early May Anastasia turned seven and she was excited to bring in birthday cupcakes for her first grade class. They spent Mother’s Day in Palm Desert where they got to celebrate with John’s mother and father and they Zoomed with Sheila’s parents. They have also been swimming a lot lately and getting Anastasia ready for summer camp. She is practicing for her swim test which involves treading water for a minute, and she is working hard on that goal!

Jessica had a busy month volunteering for PTA. She helped set up for Livi’s school’s annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser. The students, staff and volunteers had such amazing high energy; it was an exciting day. Jessica helped to organize a Teachers/Staff Appreciation Lunch, helped to decorate the school, and had the entertaining task of interviewing students on why the teachers and staff are the best! She also worked at the school’s book fair. Finally, she was delighted to chaperone Livi’s first field trip to the zoo.

Mike Hurley also volunteered for a Skate for the Kids PTA event by grilling hotdogs and hamburgers. Jessica enjoyed the fun-filled afternoon with Livi and Gigi, who rode their scooters around the skate park and played in obstacle courses while listening to live music.

Additionally, Jessica planned a family BBQ to celebrate her family’s April birthdays. It was such a treat to connect with relatives that she hasn’t seen for a while.
