Out & About – September 2021

At the Firm

Matt Showley attended several virtual events this month. Matt attended one as a member of the Scripps Health Foundation Gift Planning Advisory Board, where the group discussed the current state of COVID impact locally and learned about some of the medical advancements currently being studied in the Scripps network. Matt also attended his Southern California advisor study group to discuss best practices among other firms and how those have evolved in this new COVID environment.

The CCMI team is happy to welcome back Jessica Hurley. She will use her talents to assist the team with client services and scheduling.

With the newest additions in August and September, the CCMI team took a new team photo during September. Be on the lookout for it on our website in the weeks ahead!

Kim continues her coursework for the Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT) designation. Each month, she works with classmates from all over the world to learn about tools to help clients through transitions in life. She is always looking for ways to better serve clients and has found the tools and collaboration particularly meaningful in helping those transitioning to a new career path, into retirement or through grieving the loss of a loved one.

Matt Ryan continues to meet with his study group on a monthly basis. They discuss trends in the industry, share best practices, and learn from one another. Matt enjoys meeting with this group and has been able to glean many lessons that allow him to be able to better serve our clients at CCMI.

Tina has been enjoying getting to work with the wonderful clients of CCMI and has engaged in developing financial plans and investment strategy for several new clients as well. She continues to enhance her knowledge of the firm’s processes and procedures. Participating in the Investment Committee and developing strategy for the investment portfolios was a highlight this month.  Tina started classes for her master’s degree at San Diego State University.  She is also enjoying the many treats for birthdays and special occasions that end up in the kitchen, which is conveniently located right across from her office.

Monica successfully passed her notary renewal examination with a score of 100%!  We are excited that we can continue to have a notary on staff to take care of notarization when needed.

Abby celebrated her one-year anniversary with CCMI this month.  Time flies when you are having fun! She is certainly proud to be a part of the CCMI team and can’t believe it’s already been a year. Abby enjoys her colleagues, duties, environment, and ability to always learn something new.  She looks forward to the future and seeing the growth of CCMI.

On the Home Front

Matt Showley and his family now have soccer games for Lizzie and Jacob, so they are running around to different fields each weekend to watch the kids play. They’ve also enjoyed having more friends over to their home now that they are settled and can entertain more easily. Late in September, Matt took his 16th annual golf trip with a group of college friends, a great tradition they managed to keep alive through COVID.

Brian‘s children have been busy with sports this month. Emma (age 14) is on the JV tennis team, and Kai (age 12) and Koa (age 9) are playing soccer, which means Mom and Dad can usually be found at a sporting event or practice most days of the week. The Matter family also enjoyed a quick weekend trip to Utah to visit family and take in a football game.

Kim and Tyler attended the 18th annual Harvest for Hope, an annual food and wine charitable event to help raise money for the Emilio Nares Foundation. The foundation helps provide free services for families with children who are battling cancer. This year, the event was held at Coasterra and they enjoyed seeing friends and supporting this wonderful cause on a beautiful day!

Matt Ryan and his wife Jess bought a new home! They moved in at the beginning of September and couldn’t be more excited for the future memories that will be made there. The new home and all the household projects that come along with moving into a new space have kept Matt’s weekends very busy.

Tina and Dave spent Labor Day weekend on their boat in LaPlaya and enjoyed live music from several different local musicians that set up on the flybridges of different boats. It was a unique and fun experience!  Dave and Tina went to Catalina to enjoy the end of summer hiking and swimming. Their daughter, Hanna, came home to watch their dog while they were away.  Luckily, the plane ticket from San Francisco to San Diego was cheaper than a dog sitter and they had the added benefit of seeing Hanna, too!

Football season has begun and the Larson family is busy following their teams this fall. Monica cheers for SDSU and University of Alabama on Saturdays. Mike and Monica watch the Green Bay Packers faithfully and the boys cheer for whoever is on their fantasy football teams.

Abby and her kids were able to visit the island of Maui and had a wonderful time. There were restrictions, but the goal truly was just to enjoy the island and be able to spend some quality time together. They got to snorkel, hike, and drive the island on the Road to Hana and a few local popular spots. This is surely a place they’d love to continue visiting!

Sheila, John, and Anastasia are all very excited that Anastasia is attending first grade—in person! They took a celebratory trip one Saturday in early September to Palos Verdes to the South Coast Botanic Garden and then on the ride back stopped at the Irvine Spectrum to enjoy the carousel. September was also a busy birthday month for them as Anastasia was invited to four birthday parties for her preschool friends. Overall, it was nice to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this month.

Jessica and her husband, Mike, kept busy preparing both their daughters for the new school year. Their youngest, Gigi, started preschool and their oldest, Olivia, is in first grade. The family has also been enjoying the warm weather by kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding on the bay with friends.
