Out & About – June 2021

29 Jun 2021 by: CCMI

At the Firm

The CCMI team has been busy preparing for the reopening of our office to clients. As rules allow and as our building begins to accommodate guests, we plan to resume in-person meetings for clients who are comfortable meeting face-to-face. We are still offering Zoom for those who enjoy the convenience or are not comfortable meeting in person. Our team is fully vaccinated and is looking forward to seeing clients in person soon!

Brian and Kim enjoyed a day of golfing in support of the Salvation Army San Diego Adult Rehabilitation Center Golf Tournament. The drive of the day was over 300 yards, assisted by a golf ball gun that all participants were able to use on one of the holes.

Matt Showley and CCMI sponsored the hole-in-one contest at Junior Achievement’s Annual Golf Fundraiser and Matt’s guest at the tournament missed achieving that goal by about one foot! Matt missed by a lot more than that, but had a great time benefiting a great organization.

June was Kim’s final month as president of Women in Business. While it was a challenging and unique year, the group continued to thrive and Kim was grateful to help lead such an amazing group of women. Kim will continue on the board as the Membership co-chair as they look to re-engage in person and bring on new members!

Matt Ryan continues to film and produce financial education videos for CCMI. He has been enjoying the creative process and being able to help more people make smart financial decisions. You can see his latest videos by going to YouTube.

On the Home Front

Sheila, John, and Anastasia celebrated a low-key Memorial Day close to home as they prepared for June and the end of kindergarten. Anastasia had her last day of class on Thursday, June 10 and then walked with her fellow classmates in a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 11. The family celebrated the end of kindergarten with ice cream from Mr. Trustee Creamery in Mission Hills. It was definitely an interesting year and they are looking forward to her going to first grade 100% in person in the fall! In the meantime, they don’t have a lot of summer plans other than trips close to home, but they are watching developments as the state reopens and may try to travel to see family in New England later in the year.

The Matter family is celebrating the promotions of Emma from 8th grade and Kainoa from 5th grade. Both kids were great scholars and we look forward to seeing their growth at their new schools. Brian, Nikki, and kids also went to Hawaii to visit family and enjoy a little time away.

At the end of June, Matt Ryan had the honor and pleasure to officiate one of his best friend’s weddings. Matt spent hours preparing for the big day, registering with the city of San Diego to become an officiant, and the wedding was a beautiful success.

The month of June was all about Father’s Day and graduations for the Larson family. Monica had one niece graduate from high school and another graduate from middle school. Mike received a Green Egg for Father’s Day and has been grilling and making pizzas on the weekend. This gift also started a backyard refresh project. Mike and Monica spent weekends sprucing up the yard, outdoor fireplace, and patio furniture and are ready for summer BBQs with family and friends.

With the renovation done, Matt Showley and his family are nearly settled in their home, with several boxes left to unpack and rooms that still need furniture—but they are thrilled to be back and love the way it turned out. Matt celebrated his birthday with a short golf weekend with friends at Ram’s Hill Country Club in Borrego Springs on a hot and windy weekend in early June.

This month, Kim achieved something she has had on her “list” for a long time: a 100-mile bike ride. She and some friends took the train from Old Town to Anaheim on an early Saturday morning and rode their bikes back to San Diego! She was initially waiting for an organized ride to accomplish this milestone but decided to complete it with her friends instead. It was a long day on the bike, taking over eight hours!

Abby has taken on a new hobby, acquiring some houseplants and outdoor plants, which are enjoyable to tend to and give her joy admiring. In addition, her daughter has been home to visit; she is based outside of California and is a little homesick already, so every opportunity she gets she’s flying home.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, you’ll find Abby’s clan at the beach, as that is where they love to spend their spare time.
