Out & About – May 2021

At the Firm

The CCMI team hosted a webinar with Jeffrey Kleintop, Schwab’s global chief investment strategist. He provided an overview of hot topics in the market and answered questions from those in attendance. A recap of the event can be found here.

All CCMI team members received both doses of the COVID vaccines and cleared the two-week hurdle by mid-May. We look forward to seeing more clients back in the office for those who would like to return to in-person meetings.

Brian attended a business retreat in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he learned about a wide variety of topics from other business owners. When not in learning sessions, the group enjoyed outdoor excursions, including hiking and horseback riding among other activities.

Matt Showley virtually attended his quarterly advisor study group with peers from Southern California, where topics discussed included market changes in 2021, reopening plans for office spaces, and how to offer both virtual and in-person meetings based on client preferences. This group has been so helpful over the years and Matt always enjoys learning from other advisors who share similar values.

Kim is currently working with the Women in Business board members to strategize and discuss ideas for the upcoming year as she rolls off as president at the end of June. The group is excited about being able to meet in person soon and Kim will be helping find a venue to host their monthly gatherings. Zoom has enabled them to continue meeting throughout the pandemic and they may decide to continue having board meetings in this format.

Kim continues her coursework as part of her ongoing financial transitionist core curriculum. This month, she is learning about a tool that helps clients and loved ones when feeling overwhelmed. When it feels like there is too much on your plate, Kim can help determine what path forward may be best for you with the help of these tools. She enjoys having this tool in her toolbox when helping clients who are living through various life situations.

Abby enjoyed her first webinar, listening to Jeffery Kleintop provide great information. She is truly loving her job, grasping her daily duties while always learning something new.

Matt Ryan continues to make monthly videos highlighting key financial planning and investing areas. Head over to CCMI’s YouTube channel to take a look!

On the Home Front

The Showley family has moved back into their remodeled home and they absolutely love how it turned out! After 10 months of living in Carlsbad, they are so excited to be back home and are busy settling into their new space. The highlights are a new kitchen with a view to the backyard and canyon, as well as a master suite on the second floor. Every other aspect of the house was rebuilt as well, with only a few original walls from the old house remaining.

Brian’s family is on the move! Both sons, Kai (age 11) and Koa (age 8) have had a lot of baseball games and practices in May. The Matters also sold their house in Alpine and are under contract to move to Poway, which they hope to do in July. It has been a busy month packing, cleaning, and moving while balancing all other activities.

Matt Ryan’s son Reid is now almost 6 months old! He and his wife enjoyed their first mother’s day celebration by getting together with family for brunch. Matt says that it is so exciting to watch his son grow and continue to develop. Reid is learning new skills all the time such as rolling over and more recently seems to be fascinated by his hands.

Sheila, John, and Anastasia started the month of May with an unofficial playdate at Pioneer Park in Mission Hills organized by the room mom of Anastasia’s kindergarten class. As she has been attending kindergarten virtually this year, it was a really nice opportunity for Anastasia to meet her classmates in person (even with masks on!), and she had a lot of fun. The family also celebrated Anastasia’s sixth birthday in May with a local dinner at a Mexican restaurant and ice cream. For Mother’s Day, John gave Sheila the day off, and then a week later, Anastasia lost her second tooth. It was a busy month for them!

May was a month of traveling for Kim and Tyler. They spent a fun weekend in Palm Desert with their friends on Mother’s Day weekend. On an extended Memorial Day weekend, they decided to drive up to visit friends in Northern California and spend a few days wine tasting together in Napa. Kim was happy to reunite with her friend Liz, who she met while living in Paris 15 years ago.

Abby enjoyed the month of May by going to breakfast on Mother’s Day. Also celebrated were her daughter’s birthday, college graduation and bon voyage, as she is going off to be a flight attendant. Since the family had a lot to celebrate, they had a bonfire at the beach with a few family members and friends. With May gray looming, it was kind of cold, but everyone enjoyed the gathering! She’s looking forward to summer and its warmer weather.

Monica and her sisters celebrated Mother’s Day with their mom by taking her to a delicious afternoon tea. In addition, the Larsons celebrated Cole’s graduation from SDSU with a master of science in exercise physiology. Monica was able to spend a relaxing weekend in the local mountains on a retreat. And for Memorial Day weekend, the Larsons had a fun time showing their niece visiting from Wisconsin the beaches of Coronado and San Diego.
