OUT & ABOUT OCTOBER 2026

29 Oct 2026 by: CCMI

At the Firm

It was a busy October as the CCMI team completed quarterly rebalancing and compiled quarterly reports to send to our clients. The advisors and Joe Oryang are all involved in trading, and the majority of the team produces and/or reviews quarterly reports, so it makes for many busy days during quarter-end months.

Brian, Matt, Kim, and Jessica spent a day offsite for CCMI’s quarterly business planning meeting.  They reviewed progress toward goals and determined what the team will focus on for the next quarter to continue improving the business for our clients.

The CCMI team spent a day serving at our charity of the year, Humble Design San Diego. Humble Design’s goal is to help end homelessness, one house at a time, by furnishing homes for people transitioning out of homelessness into stable housing. We got to participate in a “Day of Joy,” going to the warehouse, picking up furnishings for someone transitioning out of homelessness, and helping decorate the house. It was a great day supporting a worthy cause.

Matt attended the October meeting for the Estate Planning Council of San Diego, where the topic was Prop 19 and the ongoing impact it is having on property tax values within families who pass property from one generation to the next. It is always an interesting topic and a rule that will take many years to fully impact California properties.

Kim attended an annual event, Elevating Women Leaders, hosted by Baker Tilly and dedicated to advancing women in leadership. The gathering brought together a select group of female professionals for an evening designed to inspire meaningful connection. Kim especially enjoyed seeing her Rotary friends, including Wendy McKinney, who was on the panel.

Tina attended a Women and Wealth Conference hosted by Dimensional Fund Advisors in Austin, Texas. The topics covered included supporting women during life transitions and navigating multigenerational planning.

Katie attended two lunch and learns with fund companies CCMI uses in our investment portfolios. She enjoyed hearing about the strategy behind the funds we use and meeting new people within the industry.

Alana attended the FutureProof conference in Huntington Beach and was blown away by the amount of cutting-edge information provided. The material was focused on new technologies within the financial planning industry. She met a lot of smart and innovative planners and enjoyed hearing their ideas.

On the Home Front

Brian and Nikki enjoyed a long weekend of hiking and chasing fall colors in Rocky Mountain National Park. Later in October, their daughter Emma came home from college for a long weekend and brought 10 friends with her to all stay at the Matter house. While it was a bit chaotic, the family enjoyed having everyone for the weekend and spending time with Emma.

Matt and Alex enjoyed some time away for their 20th wedding anniversary, visiting four regions in Italy in early October. Starting in Bologna, known as the food capital of Italy, they took a tour of one of the many Parmesan cheese factories in and around Parma and got to see and taste the entire process from start to finish. They also toured the city and sampled many delicious bites along the way. They next visited the medieval city of Siena (pictured) and were treated to several nights of unexpected entertainment in the Il Campo town center. The endless winding streets and corridors were so lovely to explore, and of course more great food was devoured. Then perhaps the highlight of the trip was staying on a working winery and olive grove in Montefalco, where they cooked with local ingredients for several nights, enjoyed Tuscany’s and Umbria’s excellent wine, and toured a family-owned olive oil production site. They ended their trip in Rome with several tours of the historical sights there, including the Colosseum, Forum, and Vatican City. They were quite tired by the end of the trip and happy to come home and see their kids after a great getaway.

Kim headed to Big Bear for a relaxing yoga retreat with girlfriends, followed by a few extra days in the mountains with her husband, Tyler, and their dog, Dolly, to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They enjoyed hiking, exploring Big Bear Village, discovering local coffee shops, and taking in the beautiful mountain scenery. It was a wonderful mix of relaxation, outdoor adventure, and celebrating 14 years of marriage.

It was a quiet month in the Vieregg household. Tina’s sister visited from Ohio and friends from Florida were in town, so it was fun to catch up with them.

After traveling last month, Mike and Monica spent October weekends working around the house and yard. Mike, hoping for cooler weather, has a pile of firewood ready for outside evening fires. Monica has been decorating for fall and is still holding out hope that some trick-or-treaters can find her front door on Halloween.

Abby enjoyed the month with a quick visit to the Midwest for a long weekend to see friends, and had friends visit her as well. Always keeping busy with a full schedule of dogs, family, and friends, Abby is looking forward to the fall and winter months, especially all the holidays.

Jessica Hurley’s family is keeping busy this fall! Gigi participated in her school’s annual Jog-a-thon. She also proudly earned the 25-mile award for her morning running club and is already well on her way to 50 miles. Olivia had the opportunity to play her saxophone alongside the high school band during halftime at a Friday night football game. For Jessica and Mike, it was a funny feeling to find themselves back at a high school football game!

This month, Katie, Ben, and the girls attended a Halloween festival and birthday parties. Ansley completed another session of swim lessons and is loving the water. She is close to being a confident swimmer and should get there next summer. With Halloween just around the corner, Mackenzie wants to be a pumpkin and Ansley wants to be a ballerina. Based on past experiences, the girls won’t like their costumes and both will choose to wear their Elsa dresses instead.

Alana is welcoming autumn with open arms! Halloween is her favorite holiday. The house is decorated and the costume planning is in full swing. The highlight of her month was attending the Harvest Moon Party, hosted by Ilan-Lael at the Hubbell home/art studio in Julian. The evening was brimming with gratitude, inclusion, and independent art. It was a truly special way to celebrate the turn of the season.

This month, Kyle and his family have been busy running around between school events, birthday parties, and soccer. The kids love the competition and being on a team. Hallie scored a few goals and even one in her own net! Brooks is stoked to be on a team that has won some games this season since last year they didn’t win any. Outside of soccer, the highlight of the month was watching Brooks take his bike on a BMX track for a friend’s birthday party. He had so much fun even though it was on the hottest day.

It has been a great month for Joe Oryang’s family, who were busy celebrating the kids’ birthdays and having fun. It’s nice having all the birthdays at the same time, but it’s also expensive and stressful to plan. Nevertheless, it was exciting to see them light up as they opened toys and spent time with family and friends.

October has been a busy and fun-filled month for Graciela and her family. They celebrated lots of birthdays with family and friends, enjoyed pool days, made memories at Knott’s Berry Farm, and embraced all the Halloween festivities. Camila performed a beautiful lyrical routine to “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, bringing tears to her parents’ eyes. Penelope has been checking off skills on her gymnastics list, getting stronger every day, and was surprised with a Certificate of Gratitude at school, such a proud moment! Through it all, Chris and Graciela are loving every minute of being the girls’ biggest cheerleaders and celebrating all their special moments along the way.
