OUT & ABOUT January 2026

29 Jan 2026 by: CCMI

At the Firm

The CCMI team enjoyed participating in a team workout at Fitness Quest 10 in Scripps Ranch to kick off our internal Team Wellness challenge. We enjoy friendly competition, and focusing on health is a great way to start the year!

The CCMI team was quite busy to wrap up 2025 with a high number of Roth conversions, charitable donations, year-end tax planning, and other actions needed prior to the end of the year. After the new year, we then shifted into preparing quarterly reports, positioning clients for 2026 by rebalancing portfolios after dividend payments at the end of the year and setting up cash distributions, and updating our systems for 2026. We also often are contacted by many new clients looking to start off the year on the right financial path — so the team has been hard at work and is looking forward to an exciting year!

Brian attended The Other Side Leadership Institute in Salt Lake City for an afternoon session to learn how it uses accountability to change people’s lives. The Other Side Academy and Village is a program that helps rehabilitate individuals who have faced addiction and homelessness through a peer-led therapeutic community and teaches its students how to be accountable. It is a fascinating model, and Brian was grateful for the opportunity to learn from it.

Alana has been keeping busy with the Junior League of San Diego. She was recently placed on the Training Committee and is excited to collaborate with other community leaders to share their knowledge with the broader organization.

She also volunteered with the Ladle Fellowship at First Presbyterian Church for a holiday-themed meal service, working in the kitchen alongside fellow volunteers. Alana was especially impressed by the additional services the fellowship provided, including a pop-up barbershop and a first aid station to help with minor cuts and scrapes. She hopes to volunteer there again soon!

On the Home Front

Brian and Nikki enjoyed having all their kids home for Christmas. The Matter family enjoyed snowboarding over the New Year holiday at June Mountain and Mammoth Mountain with cold weather and good snow. It was a great way to start 2026.

Matt and his family had a busy end of 2025 and have taken things slowly as the new year launched. The kids got back into their school and activity schedules, with Lizzie reaching the competition portion of her Mock Trial team at her high school and Matt and Alex being able to watch her practice in advance of the San Diego County-wide competition. Additionally, Matt took a class and passed a short test to become belay certified so he can join Jacob at his rock climbing gym; Matt remains firmly on the ground managing the ropes as Jacob climbs.

Kim and Tyler recently enjoyed a fun night out celebrating a good friend’s birthday at the Lafayette Hotel. They made an evening of it — bowling, sharing a great dinner, and wrapping up the night with live jazz. With busy schedules, it’s not often they get to spend time with this group of friends, which made the night even more special and memorable!

The Viereggs spent Christmas in Ohio with Tina’s extended family gathering at her mom’s new home. The week leading up to the main event was filled with fun activities like baking cookies, a family workout at Orange Theory Fitness, the annual sausage-making party (an Italian family tradition), a post-wedding party for their nephew and his bride, and a gathering with Tina’s high school friends and their families. Christmas Eve was an all-day affair at Tina’s mom’s visiting with family, playing games, puzzle building, opening presents, and eating and more eating, capped off with a beautiful Christmas Eve mass. Nothing is more special than spending time with family. Unfortunately, their travels gave them the gift of the sniffles, so they spent a quiet evening at home to ring in the new year!

Mike and Monica spent the month of January welcoming his mom from Wisconsin to San Diego. The family has found her a place to live independently, and everyone is excited to have her close by. It has been fun taking her to new places, decorating her apartment, and simply enjoying the warm weather with her.

Abby and her kids went to her friend’s cabin in Wrightwood for their yearly tradition and also celebrated her son’s birthday there. There was no snow this year but it was quite chilly. They enjoyed a fierce pool competition and played other games, which was a lot of fun. It’s always just a nice time to spend together and relax.

Instead of a traditional holiday gift, Jessica’s family treated their girls (and their cousins) to iFly for indoor skydiving. It was an instant hit and a seriously fun morning. New Year’s Eve was the cozy kind: cooking together, working on puzzles, and playing Harry Potter Monopoly. Olivia was invited to her school’s jazz band, so she’s now squeezing in sax practice before and after school. Gigi rocked a class ukulele performance but insists on learning to play the electric guitar because “they’re way cooler.”

This month, Katie’s family has been battling all the sickness that has been going around. One special moment from the month was when the girls got their first haircuts! Ansley loved the entire experience whereas Mackenzie loudly expressed how much she didn’t want a trim! Mackenzie’s photo is right before she decided she no longer wanted a haircut.

Alana traveled back to her hometown of Eatonville, Washington, to visit her family. She was grateful for one rare rain-free day and loved being able to see Mount Rainier from her childhood home (pictured). She spent the holiday persuading her mom to do a puzzle with her, taking long walks in the woods with her dad, and showing off her new cooking skills — made even more fun by how easily impressed her parents were.

Joe’s family had a great holiday season, having a lot of fun and enjoying time outside. Whether riding bikes, hiking, or sitting at the beach, they were doing it all and enjoying the time together.

The holiday season for Kyle and his family flew by. They really enjoyed celebrating the Christmas season with Rebecca’s family. The kids had a great time taking pictures with Santa, spending time with their cousins, and opening up presents! They also celebrated Brooks’ birthday at the trampoline park and had so much fun.
