At the Firm

The CCMI team threw a surprise baby shower for team member Joe and his wife Kendra, with their son Zo joining in on the fun. The team looks forward to welcoming Joe and Kendra’s baby girl in late fall.

Matt and Brian met with Schwab to review the results of CCMI’s data submitted to its benchmarking study.  Participating in this study helps CCMI determine what other firms are doing and how we can continue to improve.

The CCMI team enjoyed a lunch out in La Jolla to celebrate team birthdays in the third quarter which included Monica, Jessica, Abby, and Brian. CCMI team members enjoyed getting away from the office to connect.

Brian, Matt, and Jessica met with CCMI’s compliance attorneys to complete their annual review and risk assessment, which is a compliance requirement. The CCMI team strives to stay up to date on the ever-changing compliance requirements.

Kim continued to support her Rotary committee by organizing a kickoff happy hour in Liberty Station and hosting a Rotary 101 session for new members. Kim enjoys meeting new Rotarians and helping them feel more connected.

Tina attended a presentation by Christopher Thornberg, PhD of Beacon Economics on Policy Turbulence and the US Outlook at SDSU. Dr. Thornberg gave his insight into what we think is happening in our economy versus what is actually happening in our economy. It was very thought provoking.

Katie attended the Financial Planning Association Symposium and enjoyed various seminars on topics to better serve our clients.

Alana attended FPA’s NexGen Conference in Orlando. The conference is designed to bring young financial advisors together for three days of networking and attending presentations covering various topics focused on the future of financial planning.

On the Home Front

Brian and Nikki took their daughter Emma to college in Utah to attend BYU. The family is excited for this chapter in Emma’s life but will miss her a ton at home. While dropping her off, Brian and Nikki took in the first football game of the season at the school.  Brian also spent one day deep sea fishing and caught a lot of rock fish but didn’t have any luck catching any sport fish. Finally, the Matter family started a kitchen remodel this month, which means lots of eating out and living among a lot of dust.

Matt and his family had a slow end to their busy summer. Lizzie and Jacob are enjoying the return to school for 9th and 6th grades, respectively. Alex spends afternoons running the kids to their after-school activities, ballet for Lizzie and the rock-climbing gym for Jacob. Alex and Matt attended a lovely wedding early in the month for the ring bearer from their own wedding — who is now married! Alex had a fun weekend trip to see friends from college in Orange County. Matt and his dad played a nice round of golf, where they both took more swings than they would have liked. Overall, it was a month to pivot into a new routine and now the Showleys are looking forward to fall.

Kim and Tyler visited Kim’s family in her hometown in northern Maine. Other family members joined and they enjoyed spending time together. They stayed busy and also relaxed with a fun night by the fire near the lake, various family outings, adventurous four-wheeling, eating the local and nostalgic cuisine, and a couple side trips to Canada as it’s only minutes away! They wish they lived closer to family and were grateful to spend a sunny week with everyone!

Tina and Dave attended a wedding in Alta, Utah, where Dave was the Officiant for the ceremony. The venue was beautiful and the celebration was fun. Over Labor Day weekend, the Viereggs enjoyed time on their boat, soaking up the sunshine and warm weather. Great niece Lilly joined them for her first boat ride and loved it.

Monica and Mike are happy to have football season back and are cheering for the Green Bay Packers every weekend. Monica spent a long weekend in Dallas visiting a friend and her family. The girls spent the time just like they did in their younger years — exploring, laughing, fishing, and watching football! Monica was grateful to spend quality time with her childhood best friend.

Abby has enjoyed the warmer weather and kept busy with family and friends. She was able to watch her niece perform in a play, “The Prince of Egypt” at the Moonlight Theatre in Vista which she really enjoyed. Abby is looking forward to an upcoming trip in the late fall.

Jessica Hurley’s house has gotten a little louder these days with Olivia taking up the alto saxophone. Her parents (and the neighbors) are cheering her on as she practices daily. Gigi was invited to join the Tidal Wave swim team through the YMCA. She’s keeping up with multiple practices each week and is excited for her first meet at the end of the month. In between chauffeuring the girls to loads of activities, Mike and Jessica have been carving out time for yoga classes. The whole family is looking forward to cooler weather — and to a little less sand being tracked everywhere!

This month, Katie’s family celebrated Ansley’s fourth birthday! It was a whirlwind weekend, but it was so fun celebrating her and reminiscing over how everything changed when she came into the world!

Before attending FPA NexGen in Orlando, Alana flew to Burlington, Vermont, to celebrate her friend’s wedding. This was her first trip to Vermont, and it reminded her a lot of her home in Seattle. Before the wedding, she took a long hike through a local river gorge. It was refreshing to swim beneath the tree canopy.

It was a good month for Joe Oryang’s family. They enjoyed the end of summer with a few beach days and a trip to San Francisco. Most of their time has been dedicated to moving into their new home, but they’re almost done with that and getting really excited to not have constant projects.

This month has been very busy for Kyle’s family. The kids went back to school, with Brooks starting kindergarten! He is having so much fun learning and making new friends. Brooks also started playing soccer and baseball, which has been enjoyable to watch. The practices and games have made the month go by fast.
