Out and About November 2025

Brian participated in interviews for LEAD San Diego’s IMPACT program, of which Brian, Matt, Kim, and Tina are all graduates. He was on a committee that interviews non-profits that hope to work with the current LEAD students as part of their class. Five great non-profits were identified and will receive free consulting services for various projects from the class participants.

Brian was on a panel of participants at Casa de Las Campanas, talking to the residents about tax law changes stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He enjoyed spending an hour with the residents sharing how the new tax law changes may potentially impact them.

CCMI’s charity of the year is Monarch Schools, which supports K–12 students who do not have permanent housing. The CCMI team was able to volunteer at Monarch on October 30 to help each student at the school select a special Halloween costume that had been donated by various generous donors. It was a wonderful event and the team loved helping to brighten the day of the students. CCMI also sent many bags of candy so the students could enjoy trick or treating at school.

The CCMI team enjoyed dressing up for Halloween with the theme of “Ghosts from Any Era.” The team was creative in their costumes, which ranged from Charlie Brown ghost characters and a Ghostbuster to a disco will never die ghost!

Matt and Kim attended Schwab’s annual IMPACT conference in Denver, where they heard keynotes from Schwab’s various market experts and authors Simon Sinek and Andy McKeown. They also learned from several other presenters on topics like AI implementation, taxation of complex trusts, blockchain technology, portfolio design, and many more. They also gained valuable insights from industry strategists and economists, and had the chance to meet with several of CCMI’s key partners and vendors.

CCMI is committed to staying at the forefront of the financial planning profession, continually sharpening our knowledge, embracing innovation, and exploring new ideas to better serve our clients.

Tina was honored to be recognized as a finalist for the Pioneer for Women in Finance award by San Diego Magazine at the annual Celebrating Women Summit. It was a privilege to stand alongside an incredible group of women leaders recognized for their contributions to our community. One of the most rewarding parts of her career so far has been taking on the role of mentor to other financial professionals as they navigate the complexity of our industry so this nomination was very special. Although she did not win the award, the team is proud of all her accomplishments and the way she continues to serve CCMI clients!

Alana has been actively involved with the Junior League of San Diego (JLSD) and this month attended the annual Impact Meeting, where committees reviewed the year’s work to reduce food insecurity across San Diego.

On the Home Front

Brian, his wife Nikki, and sons Kai (16) and Koa (13) enjoyed a quick trip to Utah over a weekend in November to visit their daughter Emma (18) at college. They took in a football game and enjoyed seeing extended family who live in the state.

Matt had a long weekend getaway to Borrego Springs to play two rounds of golf at the recently redesigned Ram’s Hill. He and several friends from his golf group enjoyed some down time before the busy holiday season kicks into gear.

Tyler joined Kim in Denver after her conference was over. It was an early birthday celebration for Kim and they enjoyed lovely restaurants and exploring the city and surrounding areas. Their favorite part was hiking Chief Mountain Peak, where they climbed up to over 11,000 feet. The 30-degree weather wasn’t too bad because the sun was shining and snow was minimal.

Tina and Dave traveled to Acapulco, Mexico to participate in the annual San Diego Yacht Club vs. Club de Yates Acapulco regatta. Four teams from each country participated in three days of sailing in Acapulco Bay. Unfortunately, the heat, humidity and tough sailing conditions proved to be too much for the American teams, and they ultimately lost the regatta but fun was had by all.

Monica and a friend attended a hands-on cookie decorating class earlier this month. They learned various techniques for decorating with royal icing while practicing on Christmas trees and snowman cookies. Unfortunately, Monica broke her wrist in a minor car accident later in the day so she will have to wait awhile to practice her newly learned skill. She was still able to celebrate birthdays and Thanksgiving with family, all while learning to live life left-handed.

Abby had a fun month of festivities, spending time with friends and family. She went out with friends for Halloween and enjoyed seeing all the different costumes. Then she also had several family/friend birthday parties and attended a couple Thanksgiving celebrations. She enjoys being able to spend time with her friends and family, especially during the holiday season.

The Hurley family soaked up all the fall and Halloween fun this year! They kicked things off at Gigi’s school Fall Festival and a pumpkin carving party, then kept the spooky spirit going at HalGloween at the zoo, SeaWorld, and Olivia’s very first Halloween dance. By the time trick-or-treating rolled around, they were almost Halloweened out! They also had the joy of celebrating Jessica’s grandfather’s 90th birthday. Olivia played “Happy Birthday” for him on her saxophone, and Gigi read a poem the family wrote together.

The Willifords had a great Halloween, spending the evening trick-or-treating in a neighborhood in Alpine. Both girls wore Princess Elsa dresses and loved getting candy! Unfortunately, the night was too much fun and they didn’t get any photos of the family together.

Alana had a full month with friends and family, highlighted by a trip to New York to celebrate a friend’s birthday and reunite with her two best girlfriends she traveled through Southeast Asia with in 2019. She spent most of the weekend in Brooklyn, enjoying the artsy vibe and visiting her friends’ favorite spots.

This month, Kyle and his family went to Arizona to visit his extended family and carve pumpkins for Halloween. Brooks and Hallie had so much fun hanging out with their cousins and going on a RZR ride through the desert. The kids also enjoyed walking through the neighborhood collecting candy on Halloween night as Batman and Wonder Woman!

The past few weeks have flown by because the Oryang’s baby is here! Mom and baby are healthy, and the birth story feels surreal since the baby was born in the car. Aside from all the excitement, they are just grateful to be able to hold their new addition to the family.
