Out & About November 2024

At the Firm

Brian attended the Schwab IMPACT 2024 conference in San Francisco. One of CCMI’s core values is “We hold ourselves accountable,” which means we strive to continuously learn to provide a high level of service to our clients. Many of the sessions Brian attended focused on the recent presidential election and the ramifications of some of the potential policy changes.

Brian and Jessica listened to an all-day SEC National Compliance Outreach seminar, during which the SEC leadership detailed their areas of focus and where firms need to consider increasing compliance. Compliance is a necessary part of CCMI’s value of “We put our clients first” and our team works hard to maintain a robust compliance program.

Brian also participated in interviewing various local non-profits to determine which projects would be selected for LEAD San Diego’s IMPACT class to provide pro bono consulting work. Brian, Kim, and Matt are all LEAD San Diego IMPACT graduates, and Tina is part of the current cohort learning about leadership in San Diego.

CCMI’s charity of choice for 2024 is the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI). Our team participated in the NAMI walk early in the year and has made various donations to NAMI throughout the year. In October, the CCMI team spent an afternoon packing 100 hygiene kits to provide to the local NAMI chapter so it could provide them to its homeless clients. One of CCMI’s core values is “We strengthen our team and community” and the entire team enjoyed the chance to give back to those in need.

Jessica Hurley has been promoted to an Operations Manager role. She will be assisting the partners in maintaining the operations of CCMI so they can continue to focus more on client-related work. Congratulations, Jessica!

CCMI is pleased to welcome a new team member, Kyle Kline, who will be assisting Monica and the team with the client services. We will have a full welcome for Kyle soon but you will be hearing from him for scheduling, forms, and many other client-related activities.

The CCMI team enjoyed dressing up for Halloween. This year’s theme was “Heroes and Villains” and the team looked great! The team also enjoyed a Halloween-inspired potluck with multiple spooky dishes.

The CCMI team enjoyed our fourth quarter birthday luncheon to celebrate Kim’s birthday this month. The team ate lunch at The Hideaway in Pacific Beach and then walked across the street for ice cream at Handel’s.

Kim already attended her first holiday party with Women in Business in mid-November! While she hasn’t been as involved this year, she always enjoys their events and especially catching up with all her old and new friends in the group. In Rotary, Kim and her co-chair Justin organized an event at the Brain Observatory downtown, bringing science to the public. It was a fun evening of socializing, learning about and seeing an actual human brain, and playing brain games!

Tina has been busy at the firm with year-end tax planning strategies and rebalancing portfolios. She has also been enjoying participating in LEAD San Diego, North County Estate Planning Council, and Scripps Foundation Advisory Council.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma, Kai, and Koa enjoyed attending Warren Miller’s ski film “75” at the La Paloma theater in Encinitas. Brian and Nikki had to share with the kids that Warren Miller films were the only way when they were growing up to see amazing videos of skiing and snowboarding. Their kids thought it was just a long version of what they can watch on Instagram or YouTube today. How times have changed!

Matt and his family planned to travel to Japan for the week of Thanksgiving along with some close friends. Their itinerary calls for being in the Tokyo area for four days and the Kyoto area for four days. They can’t wait to experience temples, the food, the culture, and the contrast to American life! Highlights of the trip are sure to be staying in a traditional Japanese home with paper walls and matted floors with a hot spring soaking tub and curated garden, as well as visiting the historic city of Kyoto and its winding street markets.

Kim and Tyler adopted their new dog Dolly “Pawton” Benson. She is a year-and-a-half old pup they found through a non-profit called “A Way Home for Dogs.”  They have had her for a few weeks and while she is skittish at first when she meets new people, they enjoy her cuddles and unconditional love. Dolly had a great time on her first car ride and hike as a family!

It’s been a relatively quiet month in the Vieregg household. The highlight was trick-or-treating with great-niece Lilly (aka Princess Aurora), who insisted that her three fairy godmothers accompany her while on her quest for candy, a request that was happily granted.

The Larsons celebrated Alex’s 30th birthday at the beginning of the month. Cole and Megan surprised Alex by coming to San Diego from Boulder. The family spent the day at the zoo and then threw Alex a surprise party with his closest grade school, high school, and college friends. Alex’s sweet dog, Sierra, also had a birthday this month, turning six. Monica plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends and continues to be thankful for all her blessings.

Abby had a busy month with family visits! She had a niece from out of state visit, so she coordinated a big family dinner. Then she went to visit her family in the Bay Area for a weekend trip to see her NorCal relatives.  Her sister and niece came from out of state, so they were all able to gather and enjoy each other’s company — cooking, eating, and hanging out. Abby hadn’t been to her hometown to visit with the family for several years, so it was a very special trip to feel the warmth of home and reminisce about the fun times they all had growing up. Abby also attended a friend’s son’s wedding in Del Mar, which was really beautiful. She has had a busy fall season but a fun one since her favorite pastime is spending time with family and friends.

Olivia and Gigi had a blast snorkeling in La Jolla and observed many leopard sharks and even a tope shark on a clear day. Olivia and Jessica attended City Ballet’s performance of Dracula. Both girls participated and Jessica volunteered for their school’s Jogathon. The annual event raises funds for many amazing school programs such as Guitars in the Classroom, Spanish, and visual and performing arts.

While it was last month, Katie wants to mention that Halloween was a blast for Ansley. She had a GREAT time knocking on doors and asking strangers for candy. There were a few times where she tried to open said doors if, in her opinion, the homeowners were too slow to bring out the candy. Mackenzie enjoyed getting all the snuggles from family while they walked around the neighborhood. Lots of laughs were had and it was a great time. In November, daycare and preschool were closed for quite a few days because of holidays and other various events, so the Willifords had a lot of chaotic but wonderful days together.

Alana has fully embraced the holiday spirit, starting with a festive Halloween celebration! This year, she showcased her creativity with three different costumes: Cruella de Vil, Uma Thurman’s character from *Kill Bill*, and Morticia Addams. She even hosted a Halloween party, handing out candy and enjoying the festivities with close friends. Now, she’s eagerly looking forward to Thanksgiving!
