At the Firm

The CCMI Team was excited to be named the winner of the 2024 Torch Awards for Ethics by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving the Pacific Southwest. (CCMI Named Winner of 2024 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics in San Diego County – CCMI Creative Capital Management Investments (myccmi.com).  Brian, Kim, Monica and Abby were in attendance to receive the award and were thrilled to be recognized among other great companies that were nominated.

CCMI is pleased to welcome Joseph Oryang to the team!  Joe started with CCMI in September as a Portfolio Operations Associate and his daily responsibilities will include portfolio data management and trading.  Joe relocated to San Diego from Utah and was previously working at the Bank of Utah as a Senior Trust Operations Analyst.  We are thrilled to welcome Joe to the CCMI team!

The CCMI team was busy preparing quarterly reports and rebalancing portfolios in early October.  Both activities require almost all of the team members’ participation so it keeps the office busy the first few weeks of each new quarter.

Matt represented CCMI in the 42nd Annual Home of Guiding Hands charity golf tournament, helping to raise money for a great organization that supports San Diegans with disabilities. At the end of October, Matt attended the San Diego Vistage Executive Summit, where he heard from several speakers on topics such as the local economy, leadership techniques, healthy living and tips for talent acquisition.

Kim continues to be involved in Rotary and Estate Planning Council outside of work and is continuing to get to know other new contacts she has met in various organizations. At work, Kim has been preparing for year-end tax planning for clients.

This month, Alana attended the local Financial Planning Association (FPA) chapter’s annual symposium. One of the highlights for her was a presentation on the recent IRS rule changes surrounding required minimum distributions (RMDs). The session provided valuable clarity on these updates, which Alana is excited to apply in her work.

As we enter into the final stretch of the year, tax planning and gifting are top of mind for many clients as well as rebalancing client portfolios.

On the Home Front

Brian and Nikki spent a long weekend in St. George, Utah with friends.  They enjoyed hiking The Narrows in Zion National Park, wake surfing in a local reservoir, seeing the musical Jersey Boys, and sharing lots of laughs with the friends that were there.  Brian, Nikki, and Emma (17) also spent a long weekend touring colleges to help Emma narrow down options as she will graduate at the end of the year.

Matt joined a group of college friends for the 19th consecutive year for a golf trip. This year the group went to a very hot Las Vegas, where temperatures were in the 100s each day on the course. It was great to connect with old friends but sadly Matt did not win the coveted trophy this year, finishing third.

Kim and Tyler celebrated their wedding anniversary with a long weekend staycation in the Ramona area. They hiked Mount Woodson and went to various wineries during their stay. Tyler recently completed his bucket list rim to rim Grand Canyon hike so he was especially happy to have a nice relaxing weekend.

Tina and Dave just returned from an amazing trip to Portugal and Spain. In Portugal, they enjoyed the vibrant culture and beautiful sights of Lisbon, Obidos, Nazare, and Porto. In Barcelona, they had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the 37th America’s Cup live from the water, spectating day one of the finals between Emirates Team New Zealand and INEOS Britannia. The day also featured the final race of the inaugural Women’s America’s Cup with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team from Italy beating Athena Pathway from Britain. In between the AC watch parties and ceremonies, they enjoyed visiting museums and restaurants and seeing Gaudi’s amazing work throughout the city, including the iconic Sagrada Familia church and Park Güell.

Monica hosted a birthday party for her sister’s 60th birthday. She and her friends celebrated by making homemade calzones for dinner, eating ice cream sundaes, and staying up late for  a silly sleepover. This group of friends has been together for over 25 years and Monica is thankful to be part of this special group.

Abby went on a wonderful family trip to Italy with her kids. Their first stop was Venice, then they went to Florence and on to Rome, with the trip ending in Positano. They also took a day trip to the Dolomites. They couldn’t have asked for better weather as they walked a minimum of five to 10 miles a day! Once they reached their final destination of Positano they thought they would relax but little did they know they had a minimum of 500 steps everywhere. It was a very special trip for the memory books, as they enjoyed their time together and exploring the country of Italy!

The Hurley family is keeping busy this fall. Olivia and Gigi both received awards for reaching their running club’s 25-mile milestone. Olivia’s goal is to run over 150 miles before the end of the school year, which puts a runner on the legend’s plaque forever! Gigi also started swimming lessons and boxing classes that focus on discipline and teamwork. Jessica’s enjoying cooking, baking, and sewing projects. She’s sewn some blouses for Olivia completely from scrap fabric that came out cool enough to wear to school! Mike can be seen most evenings on his skateboard attempting to keep up with the girls as they scooter around the bay/boardwalk.

One milestone took over the month of October for the Willifords and that was potty training Ansley. In fact, Katie and Ben can’t remember if anything else happened and the only question they know how to ask these days is, “Is your body telling you it’s time to go to the bathroom?” All jokes aside, it was a great month with a lot of progress in potty training. Mackenzie is sprouting like a bean, babbling like crazy, and loves exploring whatever room she is in. They are looking forward to Halloween and trick-or-treating, and the upcoming holidays!

This month, Alana had the honor of officiating her friends’ wedding on a beautiful sunny day. The bride is a close friend from her college days, and Alana lived with the groom for a time, making her the perfect person to share their story and facilitate their union. The wedding was truly a dream come true, set against the stunning backdrop of Whidbey Island, Washington. The celebration was made even more memorable by the incredible food and wine, expertly curated by the couple, who own the renowned local restaurant, The Oystercatcher. Alana jokes that she laughed so much with friends that weekend she may have added a few extra years to her life. It was truly a joyous occasion!
