Out and About August 2024

At the Firm

The CCMI team bid farewell to Allie, who left on maternity leave and subsequently moved back East as her husband received military orders to be stationed as a test pilot. Team members sent her off with a baby shower and wished her well as we know she is excited to be closer to family where she grew up in Ohio.

Brian, Matt, and Kim completed all the annual reviews for our CCMI team members to discuss performance and goals for the next year. We love our team and look forward to adding more great team members to help serve our wonderful clients in the near future.

Matt Showley attended his quarterly Advisor Study Group with other advisors from around the region. The focus of the meeting, improving the client experience, provided some helpful takeaways for CCMI on how we can enhance new and existing client processes. Matt also attended a full-day meeting with his Vistage group, where they heard from an excellent speaker about the business lifecycle and how there are common observations and strategies at every stage of it.

Kim has been busy kicking off as a co-chair of her Rotary group’s Grotarian committee, which helps establish connections with new members of Rotary and get them oriented in the group. She has also been busy working on ongoing projects at work to improve processes in between helping clients.

Summertime tends to have a little slower pace, which gives our team the opportunity to train and learn internally and prepare for the upcoming busier months ahead. Our investment committee has been dedicating time to prepare for potential portfolio adjustments as we head into year end and respond to actions by the Fed as well as prepare financial plans to give our clients clarity on accomplishing their goals.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma (17), Kai (14), and Koa (12) enjoyed the outdoors this past month.  They traveled up to Montana and Canada, where they visited Glacier National Park, Waterton National Park (Canada), Banff National Park (Canada), Yoho National Park (Canada) and Kootenay National Park (Canada). They enjoyed beautiful weather, long and challenging hikes, cliff jumping, whitewater rafting, animal viewing, and spending time together. Upon returning home, Kai went with his grandpa to hike Mt. Whitney (the highest point in the 48 contiguous states) and made it to the top on a one-day hike. The family also enjoyed a weekend of beach camping watching beautiful sunsets, surfing, and spending time with friends.  After all the fun, they returned home for Emma to have surgery to repair her torn ACL; she is recovering and dedicated to physical therapy to heal as quickly as possible!

Matt and his family celebrated daughter Lizzie’s 13th birthday with a series of celebrations with family and friends. Hard to believe she is now officially a teenager! Matt and Alex also had a night out for the Foo Fighters concert, which was quite a spectacle at Petco Park.  The Showley kids have been very active in the final month of summer, with Adventure camp for Jacob and ballet camp for Lizzie, among many sleepovers and days at the beach.

Kim and Tyler have been enjoying a relaxing summer and looking forward to an upcoming trip to Maine. They celebrated Kim’s two-year anniversary of being a partner at CCMI with a nice dinner out.

The highlight this month was a visit from Tina’s cousins from Italy. It was wonderful to spend time with them and get caught up on their lives and show them around our wonderful city. They visited the Zoo, the USS Midway, and the Del Mar Racetrack; went to a Padres game; and spent an afternoon sailing and swimming in Glorietta Bay. But the best part of the trip was just spending time together eating, drinking, and laughing! It felt truly magical and heartwarming, as if no time had passed since we last saw each other.

Monica and Alex went to a Padres game this month and are enjoying following the team as it is doing well the second half of the season. They are trying to play pickleball regularly on Friday nights and are hoping to get Mike hooked too. Monica tries to get to the beach at least one evening a week to walk and catch a sunset. She was grateful to have her aunt in town for a quick visit at the end of the month and the family celebrated with a barbecue.

Abby has had a busy summer. Abby went to Michigan to spend a few days with her long-time girlfriends, as one of them has a lake home in South Haven. They enjoyed relaxing and spending quality time with each other as they don’t often see the friend who lives out there. The lake area and town are quaint and cute, and it was nice to visit somewhere new as it was a first visit for everyone.  Abby got to celebrate her birthday there, making the getaway even more special.

Jessica and her family had fabulous adventures in Costa Rica. They rode horses, went kayaking, visited volcanoes, walked across hanging bridges in the rainforest, and even planted a tree there. They loved river rafting and spotting long-nose bats, howler monkeys, and crocodiles. Olivia and Gigi also attended archery, surf, skateboarding, and Seaworld camps. It’s been a fun and busy summer!

The Willifords spent their month in the pool and at playgrounds around the county. The highlights of the month included Katie and Ben’s anniversary, Ansley starting swim lessons, and Mackenzie starting to sleep through the night! At the time of this writing, Mackenzie has slept through the night three times this month! Pop the champagne!

This month, Alana closed a very exciting chapter; more details will be announced by the team later. She’s been celebrating with lots of time by the pool, reading at the beach, and spending some quality time with her beloved cat, Meow-Meow.
