At the Firm
Brian, Matt, and Kim spent a day offsite for CCMI’s quarterly business planning meeting. The partners review the accomplishments from the previous quarter, and plan for the quarter ahead for projects and short-term goals, all while keeping the long term in focus. These meetings are a great chance for the partners to determine the best way to deliver additional value to our clients and improve our services.
Brian attended a business owners retreat over a long weekend with his forum from the Entrepreneur’s Organization. The group of nine business owners enjoyed learning from each other, planning for the future, and having some adventurous activities during their days together.
Matt has been focused on improving CCMI’s trading practices and using new tools for the benefit of our clients. Trading at CCMI is a team effort and we are always looking to improve our processes.
Monica, Kim, Alana, and Abby participated in the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) walk. Each year CCMI selects a charity to support throughout the year and this year NAMI was selected since mental illness affects so many people in our community. It was a nice sunny San Diego day for friends and family to join together to support such a great cause and even Abby’s dog Nai joined us!
After the NAMI walk, and as part of Rotarians at Work day, Kim and Tyler participated in a San Diego Humane Society walk where they walked dogs Matthew and Tottie who were looking to be adopted into forever homes. Kim and Tyler hope to adopt soon so they were happy to help the dogs have a fun walk in Tecolote Canyon and raise awareness about adopting and/or fostering pets from the Humane Society.
Kim participated in a study group in Orange County with Dimensional Fund Advisors and enjoyed meeting other advisors and discussing best practices among the group. The group meets on a quarterly basis.
Tina became a member of Scripps Health Foundation Advisory Board, helping clients make donations to fund research and other needs in our health system.
On the Home Front
The Matter family is enjoying the last month of school and baseball as they look forward to summer. The kids are all ready for school to be done and looking forward to longer days by the pool without homework, while Brian and Nikki are looking forward to (hopefully) less crazy days of shuttling kids around to school, sports, and other activities.
Matt, Alex, and their daughter Lizzie visited New York City for Lizzie’s spring break. They took a walking tour of lower Manhattan to learn about the history and architecture of the city; visited the Empire State Building, The Met, 9/11 Memorial Museum, and Central Park; and enjoyed a Broadway show. They also walked the High Line and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, so they were quite tired by the end of their short trip.
Kim and Tyler decided to make Kim’s study group in Orange County a spontaneous weekend trip. They enjoyed walking around the Newport area, having a nice dinner, and an eight-mile hike at Crystal Cove on the way home. They’ve been doing a lot of hiking recently to prepare for an upcoming trip to Switzerland!
Tina’s family spent time celebrating Hanna’s birthday in April and Dave’s birthday in May. They welcomed a new great nephew and attended a Country Music Festival in Indio. They also celebrated a friend’s wedding and numerous graduations and attended San Diego Yacht Club’s Opening Day festivities, which included the Commodore’s Opening Day Dinner Dance, a regatta, a “best dressed dock” competition, and finishing up with the official opening ceremony (which included a live demonstration by the Coast Guard of a helicopter to water rescue). The festivities ended with camaraderie and hospitality aboard various boats. It’s a wonderful time-honored tradition.
Monica celebrated Mother’s Day a week late when son Cole came for a visit from Colorado. It was great to have the entire family together! Monica went wedding dress shopping with Cole’s fiancée Megan for the Colorado wedding taking place in July 2025. Mike stayed busy on the weekends by working on home projects and grilling.
May is a busy month for Abby with many family and friend celebrations, and with Mother’s Day in the mix it becomes a festive and fun month. This month was one of Abby’s daughter’s birthdays and they went horseback riding. Abby’s daughter loved it! Now they want to go more often since they both enjoyed it so much. Abby also got to spend Mother’s Day with her kids, which is always a treat for her.
Jessica and Mike visited Topanga State Park and hiked over 18 miles one weekend. They also had an awesome dinner listening to live jazz at a local café. To celebrate Mike’s birthday, they went camping with friends and confirmed their tents were waterproof when they had some unexpected rain showers the first night! The second day brought better weather and they enjoyed hiking, archery, and grilling tacos in the great outdoors! Jessica celebrated Mother’s Day with her extended family at an afternoon BBQ and went hiking with Olivia and Gigi.
This month, the Willifords spent their weekends enjoying the warmth and spending time outside. Ansley (two and a half) has finally come around to accept that she has a little sister (Mackenzie, four months old), and has stopped telling her baby sister to go away. Katie and Ben laughingly acknowledge Ansley will probably use that phrase again in middle school and high school! In other news, Katie’s grandpa passed away at the age of 99, just one and a half months short of his centennial birthday. While the passing of any loved one is difficult, Katie and her family are so thankful they enjoyed so many years with him.
This month, Alana traveled to Whistler for her friend’s bachelorette party, centered around the theme “Fairies and Witches.” The group was split based on their personalities and outfits. Alana, designated as a fairy due to her personality, thoroughly enjoyed dressing up in glitter and fully embraced the theme. They had a wonderful time at Whistler’s Scandinave Spa, an experience Alana highly recommends to anyone visiting the area. Wrapping up their weekend, they embarked on a bachelorette-themed scavenger hunt at each stop, adding a touch of charm and warmth to the festivities. Additionally, Alana had her first visit to the San Diego Zoo, finding it delightful to finally understand the buzz surrounding it, especially enjoying the aviary and hippo exhibit.
