OUT & ABOUT – MARCH 2024

27 Mar 2024 by: CCMI

At the Firm

The CCMI team enjoyed lunch at Din Tai Fung to celebrate Tina and Katie’s birthdays, which both take place this quarter. The team always enjoys time together outside of a work setting to bond and enjoy each other’s company.

Brian attended the Schwab Advantage Conference for a few days in Phoenix. The event brought together owners of firms throughout the country to hear updates from Schwab’s team on technology, the firm, and how to improve our practices. Brian has a list of items he is bringing back to help implement and educate the rest of the team on to continue to improve our service to clients.

It was a busy month for Kim as she attended her weekly Rotary meetings and a new member event at Belmont Village in La Jolla, plus the Estate Planning Council’s monthly meeting on trustee protections. Additionally, she attended the Women in Business monthly meeting on successful aging and its beach yoga and brunch event, and hosted the group’s book club at her home. Kim has enjoyed connecting and engaging with the various groups she is involved with.

Tina and Matt attended the Scripps Gift Planning Advisory Council Meeting to learn about the advancements in healthcare and specifically stem cell therapy and how charitable gifts can impact the progression of state-of-the-art technology in science and research. She also attended the Estate Planning Council’s monthly meeting and participated in a retirement strategy webinar to stay up to date on spending and inflation trends relating to people in their retirement years. Tina continues to keep the advisors up to date with enhancements to the financial planning software and other planning topics.

On the Home Front

The Matter family has been spending a lot of time at the baseball fields for Kai (age 14) and Koa (age 11). Brian enjoyed a quick trip to Phoenix to watch Kai play in a baseball tournament, but  had to leave early to make it to a pickleball tournament he had committed to playing in with a good friend. The pickleball tournament was fun and Brian missed the doubles championship game by one match.

Matt Showley and his family had a great week-long getaway to Mammoth right after a recent blizzard. They had plenty of snow and generally great weather and conditions, which allowed for a fantastic trip. Jacob (10) did particularly well, completing his first black diamond slopes and even moguls! The family had a great time and is very excited to go back again next year.

Kim, Tyler, and Kim’s parents enjoyed their last night in San Diego at the beach having dinner and watching the sunset. Now, Kim and Tyler have been looking ahead and planning their trips for 2024. They are excited for the months to come!

Tina and her family traveled to Colorado to visit family and ski. The weather conditions on Copper Mountain were perfect with a light dusting of fresh snow each night and bluebird skies during the day. Tina and Dave, along with Mike and Monica, cheered on the Aztecs at their last home game of the season. It was an exciting game that went into overtime but unfortunately SDSU came up one shot short of a win and being undefeated on its home court for the season.

Monica and Mike have also been cheering on the SDSU men’s basketball team this season and attended the last game. They ran into many fellow Aztec friends at the game including Tina and Dave Vieregg. Monica continues to work on her garden on the weekends and is hoping all the rain will bring lots of springtime flowers! The Larsons celebrated Mike’s birthday on St. Patrick’s Day with a day of adventure and dinner.

March was a good month for Abby, as she kept busy with the normal routines and did a lot of gardening and getting ready for spring. It helps with the time change and having longer afternoons to enjoy outdoor activities. Abby also got to go to Top Golf for a family gathering with her brother, sister-in-law, and kids — a first for her and her kids — and they had a great time!

Jessica chaperoned four lively kindergartners during Gigi’s class field trip to the New Children’s Museum. The kids loved climbing around the Whammock. She also helped set up the school’s Harry Potter-themed book fair, complete with Quidditch hoops and a fireplace spitting out Hogwarts acceptance letters. Finally, she coordinated the school’s tile painting event and was reelected PTA secretary. It’s been a busy and fun month of service!

The highlight of this month was Alana’s trip back home to Seattle. Since her family avoids holiday travel, they usually plan an extended visit in the new year. Alana shares a close bond with her grandparents and cherished spending time with them. Despite being in their 80s, her grandparents insist they don’t feel old, although everyone tells them otherwise! Alana accompanied her grandpa to his annual model train show, an activity he’s enjoyed for over 30 years. She has fond memories of sitting in his shop, watching him create intricate scenery. She also enjoyed quality time with her immediate family, including a memorable jazz performance by Kandace Springs at the renowned “Jazz Alley” in downtown Seattle. Alana’s dad, who works in Prudhoe Bay during winters, shared captivating stories of witnessing the Northern Lights. His upcoming and final stint will be in an area known for polar bear sightings. Alana had an amazing time and dearly misses her family.
