At the Firm…
The CCMI team continues to work on enhancements to our new website. We look forward to sharing updates as new features are added.
The CCMI team hosted a webinar for our clients with featured speaker Apollo Lupescu, PhD., who is a Vice President at Dimensional Funds Advisors. The focus was on how the current market and economy compare to previous historical situations, as well as how it is also unique.
CCMI sent out the new compliance document, Form CRS, to all of our clients. You can find it on the website here.
Matt Ryan helped prepare for our scheduled quarterly rebalancing period. CCMI made a few adjustments to portfolio allocations during this rebalancing and Matt Showley prepared our trading software for the changes.
Matt Showley participated as a speaker for the Financial Planning Association’s Externship Program, which was adapted from its nationwide internship program in light of Covid-19. Matt was featured as a speaker on how to incorporate estate planning guidance into the financial planning process. The program had about 1,900 participants nationwide and has been considered a great success and has already been modeled by other industries as way to integrate the next generation of talent into a profession in today’s virtual world.
Matt Showley also received his AEP® designation (Accredited Estate Planner) after applying with the National Association of Estate Planning Councils in 2019. Matt has finished his term as the President of the local chapter and also was accepted into the AEP® ranks by meeting the criteria of coursework, references and experience.
Kim participated in a virtual ENGAGE 2020 conference held by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The virtual seminar included sessions in the areas of tax planning, estate planning, retirement planning, financial planning and client services, and featured well respected leaders in the industry. While she prefers attending these conferences in person to connect with her peers, she thought it was a well-run conference and enjoyed the technical aspects as always looks for ways to better serve our clients.
Kim’s Women In Business group (WIB) is moving forward virtually and continue to have multiple events per month. This month, Kim’s favorite was the Casual Connection where several women participated virtually in a cooking class with Chef Giacomo from A Casa Mia where they made gnocchi with pesto from scratch. He even delivered all the ingredients to each of the participants ahead of time!
On the Home Front…
Matt Showley and his family spent a week in Mammoth, CA hiking, swimming in various lakes, and exploring the Tuolumne Meadows area of the Eastern boundary of Yosemite. It was nice to get out of the city and enjoy the fresh air. The Showley family also officially broke ground on their home remodel and have officially moved out of their house for the next 6 months – the adventure begins!
Brian celebrated his birthday in early July by going kayaking in La Jolla with his wife Nikki and their three children. Koa (age 8) enjoyed kayaking surfing the waves, while Emma (age 13) and Kai (age 10) enjoyed snorkeling with the many leopard sharks swimming in the shallows. The Matter family also enjoyed beach camping at San Elijo for a weekend in early July. The older children especially enjoyed surfing this year, and Brian is excited to bring more surfboards with him next year for the family to surf together.
Matt Ryan helped a friend move during what seemed like the hottest weekend of the year. Even though it was hot, they had a good time and got the job done. Matt Ryan also painted his kitchen cabinets over July 4th weekend. Matt enjoys home improvement projects, and this was certainly a very large undertaking. He took off the cabinet doors which were light brown to begin with. Sanded the doors, primed them, and painted them a soft white to match the rest of the home. He isn’t completely finished with the kitchen, but it looks refreshed and updated which was the look he was going for.
Monica and her extended family continue to meet every Friday night to catch up with each other while playing friendly games of cornhole. Monica and Mike were able to meet up with friends for a “social distancing” dinner in Coronado. The city setup tables and chairs in the park and encouraged people to order take out from local restaurants. Monica enjoyed a vacation at home to celebrate her birthday.
Katie and Ben have had a quiet July. Earlier this month, her brother moved to Arroyo Grande in preparation for his first job as a dentist! They had a small family get together and enjoyed spending time with him before he moved away again. Fortunately, Arroyo Grande is much, much closer than Portland, Maine and they look forward to visiting him soon.
Sheila, John and Anastasia also had a quiet July staying close to home, mostly hanging out in the backyard or going on neighborhood walks. They have been doing regular Zoom sessions with friends and family every weekend and have noticed they are keeping connected more than ever before! They did venture out for a morning hike to the Sweetwater River Trail which was a nice chance to enjoy nature and see a different part of San Diego.
Kim and Tyler have organized a couple “driveway happy hours” with their neighbors this summer. They live on a small street in the Clairemont area and enjoy getting together from time to time with their neighbors. Everyone brings their own chair and they light the fire pit once it gets dark. They order takeout from local restaurants and everyone enjoys the interaction and having a few laughs, while maintaining a safe distance apart from each other.
