At the Firm 

The CCMI team enjoyed a lunch offsite to celebrate team birthdays (Tina and Katie) for Q1.  We tried a restaurant called Steamy Piggy and enjoyed a variety of Asian fusion foods.  

Brian and the team have been working hard updating the CCMI Firm Brochure (ADV) for the annual filing. Clients will receive a copy of the updated document as soon as it is submitted to the SEC.

Brian, Matt, and Kim met at their quarterly partners meeting to discuss goals and areas to focus on for the next quarter. We recently implemented the Entrepreneur’s Operating System (EOS) and quarterly meetings are part of the overall process.  

Brian attended a retreat with a small group of business owners in Park City over a long weekend. The event included a tour of the Utah Jazz’s arena (NBA) and meeting with the former owner’s son to learn about his dad’s rags to riches story; touring outdoor equipment maker Cotopaxi to learn about its philosophy of making an impact in the world; and enjoying a variety of Olympic themed events, including snowboarding/skiing, bobsled, biathlon, and curling. Brian enjoys the process of gathering with other business owners to learn from how they operate their businesses. 

Matt Showley attended the CFA Society of San Diego’s annual forecasting dinner at the Prado in Balboa Park. Featured speakers included Maria Vassalou, PhD, Co-Chief Investment Officer at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Gina Martin Adams, CFA, CMT, Chief Equity Strategist at Bloomberg.

Tina has had a busy start to the year helping clients create or update their financial plans. The beginning of the year is a good time to set financial goals and this year is no exception. Tina attended an Estate Planning Council meeting that included an informative presentation from several real estate professionals on the current state of the real estate market, particularly in San Diego.  

On the Home Front

The Matter kids enjoyed a trip up to the snow in the Laguna Mountains for sledding and playing around. With all the recent storms passing through San Diego, it was a great time to see the rare covering of snow in the area’s mountains. The quick trip prepared them for a bigger trip planned for skiing at the end of February in Brian Head, Utah.

Matt Showley and his family took a long weekend trip to Mammoth, where they found the highest snowpack in recent memory. They had three great days of skiing and are planning another trip in March. In February, the Showleys also celebrated Jacob’s ninth birthday over the course of several days with various events with friends and family.

Kim and her family had a fabulous staycation in Mission Beach in January, where they enjoyed the King Tides as well as people-watching on the boardwalk. They had the most fun being by the ocean and inviting friends to join and watch sunsets!

Tina celebrated her birthday with the 7 Bridges walk in San Diego, lunch at Caroline’s Seaside Café, and dinner with friends at Herb and Sea in Encinitas.  Tina and Dave also attended the Farmer’s Open Golf Tournament at Torrey Pines and danced an evening away at an ‘80s party at SDYC in full fashion of that era.

Mike and Monica have been trying out new recipes to eat healthier this year. They enjoy meal planning, shopping, and cooking together. Officially empty nesters, on weekends you can find Mike working in his garage woodshop and Monica in the house or yard dreaming up new DIY projects. They just celebrated 30 years of marriage and hope to take a vacation in the summer to mark the occasion.

February was somewhat of a busy month for Abby’s household. Abby attended a potluck gathering for the Super Bowl and a couple birthday and shower celebrations for family and friends, so it actually seems like the norm to attend these kinds of celebrations for Abby lately.  She loves it, as it’s her way to see everyone and get to spend some good fun visiting with everyone. Abby is already looking forward to the time change and spring as she loves to garden!

Jessica was fortunate to chaperone Olivia’s second grade field trip to the Birch Aquarium. In addition to exploring the exhibits, the class participated in a variety of hands-on experiments. She also volunteered at Olivia’s and Gigi’s school jog-a-thons; both were a huge success! As a belated 85th birthday gift, Jessica accompanied her grandmother to an Engelbert Humperdinck concert. They had so much fun together!

This month, the Willifords traveled to Florida for Katie’s brother’s wedding. They had a wonderful time celebrating the newlyweds! The Vietnamese Tea Ceremony included the exchanging of gifts, serving of tea to family elders, eating of balut eggs, and watching the dragon dancers. The traditional American wedding reception was at the Ringling Museum and was extraordinary. Also, the family stayed in Siesta Key and enjoyed the soft white sands and beautiful sunsets. While the mini-vacation was quite memorable, Katie and Ben were anxious to return to Ansley, who will be one and a half at the end of this month! Where has the time gone?
