At the Firm

The CCMI team enjoyed a Padres-themed Halloween. Win or lose, we celebrated the Padres that day complete with a rally goose (Kim), the San Diego Chicken (Monica), and a Swingin’ Friar (Matt Showley). We also enjoyed a potluck lunch to celebrate.

Throughout October, many team members have been participating in training for our new CRM system. We are excited with all the possibilities and better reporting the new CRM will provide for us.

Brian played in the Don Coryell Golf Classic, where we sponsored a hole. The tournament benefits the Boys & Girls Club of San Diego. Brian’s foursome may not have won the tournament at -5 but they had a fun day on the golf course.

Brian was focused on compliance in late October and early November. It takes a lot of time to review all the documents to make sure the firm remains in compliance with the ever-changing rules and regulations—it’s a year-round process. 

Brian also assisted with interviews of nonprofits for LEAD San Diego’s IMPACT program. Nonprofits are selected based on projects they propose and receive pro-bono assistance from LEAD class participants.  Brian, Matt, and Kim are all LEAD San Diego IMPACT graduates.

Matt has attended a few half-day seminars this month about cybersecurity, practice management, and the outlook for interest rates. Tina attended the North County Estate Planning Council’s monthly meeting in early November to hear strategies on how to protect assets from creditors and learn about a firm that helps property owners get their homes in top shape prior to selling. Tina and the rest of the Investment Committee met to discuss strategy heading into year-end. 

Kim attended the annual Financial Transitionist (FT) conference in early November. She received the CeFT designation in January and has been continuing to learn about and build her skills to help clients through major life changes. Kim also attended the Estate Planning Council meeting, where she learned about accomplishing estate planning goals through real estate.

On the Home Front

Abby had a nice November, as she was busy with the everyday routine but preparing for the holidays. She started baking cheesecakes and freezing them; she loves trying new recipes.  Abby spent the Thanksgiving holiday with her kids and brother’s family. It was a busy but quiet month. She looks forward to all the fun energy the holiday festivities bring and enjoys decorating, gift-giving, and gathering with family and friends.

Brian’s family enjoyed wrapping up various sporting events in late October and early November. Emma (15) finished her second year of tennis as well as her club soccer team, Kai (13) finished his rec soccer team but continues to play baseball year-round, and Koa (10) finished his rec soccer team but started basketball. New seasons are right around the corner but for now they are enjoying a moment of silence as they look forward to the holidays.

The Showley kids have completed soccer and theater for the fall and are looking forward to the holidays and school break. Matt is excited to finish the last major project on their house— building an outdoor cooking area in the patio—which they hope to have completed by the end of the year.

Regatta season is well underway for Tina and Dave. The first race of the Hot Rum regatta series at SDYC took place on November 5. Tina and Dave sailed on Perseverance, a J105, and finished in sixth place out of a total 117 boats over a two-mile course!   

In October, Dave was asked to be one of the crew representing San Diego in the 2022 International Masters Regatta. This regatta invites skippers from all over the world who have earned their place on the roster—national or world champions, Hall of Famers, and Olympians. Each of the invited skippers must be over the age of 60 and each crew member must be over the age of 45. Dave sailed with the only female skipper, Annie Gardner, who won the silver medal in the 1984 Olympics in windsurfing, among her other great accomplishments. Unfortunately, the results of the regatta were not favorable for team Gardner but fun was had by all and the experience was unbelievable. Tina enjoyed watching the races from spectator boats and attending the parties. Halloween was fun at the Vieregg household with many, many little trick or treaters who were very polite! It was fun to see all the creative costumes.

The Hurley family had a wonderful time trick-or- treating at SeaWorld and in their neighborhood. Gigi and Olivia also thought it was great fun walking in the costume parade organized by the neighbors, which ended with pizza and popsicles. Jessica has been helping organize the return of the Holiday Bake Sale for Olivia’s school. The girls were delighted to pick out lots of sprinkles and decorations for the upcoming event.

 

 

The past few weeks have kept the Hoopes family busy. They spent a day at Disneyland to see Halloween decorations and went trick-or-treating on Halloween night with Anastasia’s friends since preschool. They have been getting outside in San Diego for walks with friends around Encinitas and Balboa Park, and they traveled to the Coachella Valley to stay with John’s parents in mid-November. That weekend, they attended the memorial service for the father of John’s childhood friend, a beautiful event held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. They also walked around El Paseo in Palm Desert, which is already getting into the holiday spirit with lots of chances to take pictures!

Monica was off for a couple weeks in November having her second carpal tunnel surgery. While recuperating, she was able to read a couple books, binge on Netflix, walk 10,000 steps a day, and catch up with friends. She attended the Coronado Island Film Festival and was able to view special screenings of movies not yet in theaters.

The past month included lots of fun for the Willifords. They went to the San Diego Zoo many times and enjoyed the HalGLOWeen decorations and special events like the Skeleton Band performances and Bubble Parties. Ansley was a pumpkin for Halloween and she enjoyed seeing all of the Halloween decorations and lights when they walked through downtown La Mesa on Halloween night. Ansley is growing up too fast; it seems like one day the Willifords woke up and their baby was a toddler! 

Kim unofficially celebrated her birthday month with several fun activities. They included a girl’s day trip to the Guadeloupe Valley for wine tasting, meeting up with old friends, and a couple nice dinners out and hikes with Tyler. While it was not a milestone birthday, it is always a good time to be grateful for living in San Diego and making sure to have fun with friends before the holidays!
