Out & About February 2025

24 Feb 2025 by: CCMI

At the Firm

CCMI hosted a webinar with Michael Townsend where we got a Washington insider’s perspective on what changes are taking place with the new presidential administration and how that may impact the markets. Thanks to all our clients who were able to join!

The CCMI team celebrated the first quarter birthdays of Tina, Katie, and Joe by going to lunch at Dumpling Inn. It is always nice to get away from the office to bond as a team.

Brian, Matt, Kim, Jessica, and Tina spent a day offsite planning CCMI’s projects for the quarter. We continue to focus on improving our processes so we can be as efficient as possible and focus our time on our clients.

Matt and Joe have been working on a project to further enhance CCMI’s trading capabilities for 2025. The beginning of the year is always busy with a mix of new projects, year-end reporting, rebalancing, and planning and the CCMI team has really been working well together to support these efforts.

Kim continues to attend weekly Rotary meetings and hosted a Rotary 101 session with new members at the CCMI office on the first Saturday in February. She and her co-chair also hosted a happy hour in January that was well attended by both new and veteran Rotarians. Kim also attended the monthly Estate Planning Council meeting, where she connected with other estate planning and financial professionals and heard from experts regarding the likely implications of the election results on income and estate tax policies.

The team fitness challenge is in full swing. More details to come.

On the Home Front

Brian, Nikki, Emma (17), and Koa (12) took a quick trip up to Yosemite in February over the kids’ one-week break from school. Kai (15) stayed home, as he made the freshman baseball team and had to go to practice during the week off of school. The Matter family is proud of Emma as she continues to receive acceptances from colleges and is just waiting to hear back from the UC schools in March to make her decision.

Matt and his family took a week off for a ski trip to Mammoth mid-month shortly after his son Jacob celebrated his 11th birthday. Matt also began playing in a weekly beach volleyball league on Monday nights; it’s the first time in about 15 years that he has gotten back into playing — which his knees quickly reminded him of! But it has been a lot of fun to play again.

Kim and Tyler enjoy the outdoors and their dog Dolly has gotten them off the couch more often. They enjoy their iced lattes and discovering new coffee shops in San Diego on Saturday mornings after a hike or walk. They discovered a 3.4-mile canyon loop in their Clairemont neighborhood, which was new to them!

Tina’s family went to Miami, Fla., to celebrate the marriage of nephew Matt and Kayla. Following those festivities, Tina and Dave spent a few days exploring Key West. They rented bikes and rode to every corner of the quaint little town, enjoying local cuisine and live music at every turn.

February brought lots of love to the Larson household. Monica and Mike celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary mid-month and Monica hosted a bridal shower for her future daughter-in-law. The theme for the party was Bride to Bee and it was special to see family and friends celebrate Megan. They enjoyed made-to-order crepes and sipped tea and mimosas. Monica baked a special beehive cake and wedding cake cookies. Fun photos, games, and a surprise sing-along made the day memorable.

Abby had a very crazy February after having to move locally (which is never fun!). This year has started off super busy and will be something to remember. Abby is looking forward to creating new memories in her new place and enjoying family time. She seems to have a birthday in the family every month, so there’s always a dinner or celebration to be had.

Jessica enjoys volunteering in Gigi’s classroom; she’s been practicing sight words and math facts with the fun first graders. Olivia did a wonderful job as Mystery Reader in her sister’s classroom too. Her parents are proud of her brave public speaking endeavor.

February was a good month for the Willifords. Mackenzie’s sleep patterns are improving, meaning Katie and Ben are becoming functioning human beings again! In their rejuvenated bliss, they started a DIY remodel of one of their bathrooms — maybe they aren’t thinking clearly yet. 🙂

This month, Alana’s highlight was hosting her parents and making unforgettable memories together. They enjoyed a candlelight symphony at the theater on Adams Avenue and went whale watching aboard the America, a replica of the 1851 sailboat. In a perfect twist of luck, they sailed out of the rain and into the sun, spotting two gray whales on their journey to Baja and a lively pod of dolphins along the way.

The Oryangs had a busy month, enjoying having friends and family in town. Kendra’s sister was in town for a week, and Joe’s friend visited for a weekend. This pushed them to go out and explore, seeing many new places with their guests in LA and San Diego. Joe also went on his annual boys trip with the boys in Kendra’s family. This year they had a great time snowboarding/snowmobiling at Brian Head.

In late January, Kyle took the kids to the New Children’s Museum located downtown. The kids really enjoyed the different art and activities at the museum. They especially liked the Whammock! In February, Hallie’s 3rd birthday was celebrated by renting a jumpy and cookie decoration at the park. She had a blast! Brooks also started another season of T-ball, which he is very excited about.
